HSE Lead
The Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Lead provides strategic safety leadership within the Operating Group, aligning safety priorities with business objectives. This role drives cultural ownership, operational integration, and high-level accountability, while fostering a people-first environment. The HSE Lead serves as a trusted partner to executive leadership, ensuring Safety is embedded in every decision and action across the group.
What you'll do:
- Champion the IIF culture by integrating Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles and strengthening exposure control defenses.
- Act as the key liaison between the Director of Safety and 'Group' leadership to ensure consistent execution of enterprise safety strategies.
- Translate corporate safety objectives (e.g., SIF prevention, mental wellness, innovation) into actionable plans at the field level.
- Provide feedback to the Director of Safety on implementation progress, adoption barriers, and frontline engagement.
- Ensure consistent application and local ownership of company-wide safety programs and processes across the group.
- Be visible and proactive with crews and frontline leaders, modeling core values, fostering psychological safety, and closing feedback loops.
- Coordinate with estimating, preconstruction, and startup teams to embed safety from award through closeout.
- Serve as the critical link between safety and operations—aligning priorities, building trust, and reducing tension.
- Support development of safety leadership across the group—coaching Senior Safety Managers, Ops leaders, and high-potential staff.
- Identify skill gaps (e.g., SIF (SHOK) identification, investigations, inspection quality) and deliver targeted training and development.
- Lead talent-related efforts including recruiting, onboarding, and performance development for safety professionals.
- Host regular check-ins and performance conversations to set goals and support direct report growth.
- Establish and monitor safety KPIs in partnership with senior leadership.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of incidents, near misses, and learning opportunities.
- Lead and participate in incident reviews with a HOP-based learning approach.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, OSHA, and client-specific regulations.
- Travel regularly throughout the Region to support project teams and your safety staff.
Who you are:
- Bachelor's degree in safety, Occupational Health, or related field
- 7-10 years of experience in a construction safety role or equivalent related experience
- Professional safety certification (e.g., CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, CUSP) required.
- Industry experience in Transportation and/or Power sectors.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA 1910 & 1926; ability to identify hazards, assess risk, and implement timely, cost-effective solutions.
- Experience with regulatory enforcement processes and legal contest procedures.
- Skilled in evaluating safety culture using audits, trends, and investigations to recommend improvements.
- Proven leadership in driving continuous improvement of HS&E systems, processes, and compliance.
- Effective communicator and collaborator in both leadership and team settings.
- Able to maintain high standards of work quality and consistency under varied conditions.
- Eligible for background checks related to secure infrastructure (e.g., airports, utilities).

What we offer:
The annual base pay for this role is between $140,000 - $200,000. The actual pay is dependent upon many factors, including: location, work experience, education, training, transferable skills, business needs, and market conditions. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. The role may also be eligible for vehicle allowance and bonus.
