Tax Manager

Location: Indianapolis, IN

Whitman Advisory is partnering with a growing boutique CPA firm seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated accounting professional who enjoys working with closely held businesses, nonprofit organizations, real estate clients, and HUD-related engagements.

Local candidates in Indiana are preferred , but the firm is open to candidates from any state, provided they hold an active CPA license and have the right experience.

Responsibilities

The Tax Manager will be responsible for managing client engagements, preparing and reviewing tax returns, and supporting financial statement and compliance audit work across a variety of industries.

Key responsibilities include:

• Prepare and review business, individual, nonprofit, and real estate-related tax returns
• Work with clients in Real Estate, Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and Nonprofit / Not-for-Profit sectors
• Assist with financial statement preparation and compliance audits
• Manage client relationships and serve as a trusted advisor
• Supervise, mentor, and review work prepared by junior staff
• Ensure engagements are completed accurately, timely, and in accordance with firm standards
• Communicate directly with clients regarding tax planning, compliance matters, and accounting needs
• Support firm leadership with process improvements, client service, and growth initiatives

Skills & Experience Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
• Active CPA license required
• Minimum of 5+ years of public accounting tax experience
• Experience working with clients in Real Estate, HUD, and Nonprofit / Not-for-Profit organizations
• Hands-on experience using CCH ProSystem fx and CCH Engagement
• Strong tax preparation and review experience
• Experience with financial statements and compliance audits preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent time management, organization, and client service skills
• Flexible, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and committed to quality
• Strong computer and accounting software skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a public accounting environment

Preferred Skills

• Prior experience in a boutique or mid-sized CPA firm environment
• Strong knowledge of real estate tax matters and nonprofit compliance
• HUD audit or compliance experience strongly preferred
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with firm leadership and staff
• Experience mentoring or supervising junior accountants
• Strong client-facing and advisory skills
