Senior Manager Business Operations

Bertec is looking for a hands‑on Senior Manager of Business Operations to own and strengthen the business infrastructure that keeps our company running. This is a broad role spanning business operations, people processes, budgeting and planning, corporate administration, and G&A. You will run important recurring processes, improve how we operate, and take ownership of new or ambiguous business needs as they arise. The right person is highly organized, exercises good judgment, and is comfortable moving between details and the bigger picture. You should be able to take a problem with limited direction, determine what needs to happen, engage the right people or outside experts, and drive it through completion. About Bertec Bertec develops technology systems that measure and standardize human movement for healthcare and performance organizations. Its solutions create a consistent measurement layer for balance, gait, strength, and functional assessment, allowing movement data to be comparable across clinicians, locations, and time. Hospitals, rehabilitation networks, and elite performance organizations use Bertec systems to standardize assessments, build longitudinal movement datasets, and support consistent rehabilitation and return‑to‑activity decisions. Position Highlights Title: Senior Manager, Business Operations Department: Operations Reports To:CEO Location: Hybrid, Columbus, Ohio Travel:Rare Annual Salary: $90,000 - $110,000 - Depending on experience and scope fit What You’ll Own Business Operations Own key company operating processes and calendars, ensuring recurring activities happen consistently and on time. Lead annual budgeting and ongoing budget-to-actual reviews with the CEO, accounting, and department leaders. Take ownership of new or ambiguous operational needs, structuring the work and driving it through completion. Coordinate corporate, tax, insurance, legal, and other business matters with external specialists as needed. Support operational needs associated with entering new states, countries, or jurisdictions. Identify gaps, unclear ownership, and unnecessary complexity and drive practical improvements. Processes & Systems Improve business processes that are unreliable, overly manual, poorly owned, or unnecessarily complex. Ensure critical processes have clear ownership, appropriate documentation, and backup coverage. Reduce key-person dependencies and make routine work easier to execute consistently. Use Microsoft 365, automation, AI, and other tools where they can meaningfully improve efficiency or reliability. People & Recruiting Operations Own core people processes including payroll, onboarding, offboarding, performance reviews, employee records, and leave. Support managers with performance documentation and employee issues, escalating sensitive or specialized matters when appropriate. Serve as an HR point of contact for employees and coordinate with external HR, benefits, payroll, and legal resources as needed. Own recruiting operations while hiring managers own candidate selection and functional assessment. Establish a consistent company-wide onboarding baseline while managers own role‑specific training. Keep people processes simple, reliable, and appropriate for Bertec’s size. G&A Administration Provide day-to-day leadership and coordination across several administrative functions. Manage and develop members of the business administration team. Ensure accounting administration, IT administration, facilities, vendors, insurance, and other recurring business needs have clear ownership and follow-through. Oversee facilities and workplace operations for our Columbus headquarters, including vendors, maintenance, building access, and other day-to-day facility needs. Coordinate with external specialists and service providers where deeper HR, finance, legal, tax, or other expertise is required. What We’re Looking For Approximately 7–10 years of professional experience, with meaningful experience in business operations, corporate operations, finance/administration, or a similarly broad role. Experience working in a small or midsized company where responsibilities crossed traditional functional boundaries. Demonstrated ability to independently structure and solve unfamiliar business problems, including knowing when and how to engage outside expertise. Demonstrated ability to take ambiguous business problems or inconsistent processes and turn them into clear, executable solutions. Strong project and program management skills with exceptional follow-through. Comfortable working with budgets, spreadsheets, business metrics, and financial information without needing to be an accountant. Experience with HR administration, payroll, recruiting operations, or similar people processes. Strong Microsoft 365 skills and an interest in using technology and automation to improve administrative work. Able to manage others while remaining highly hands‑on. Good judgment about when a process needs improvement and when "good enough" is actually good enough. What Success Looks Like After your first year, Bertec’s core administrative processes should be noticeably more predictable and less dependent on individual people. Budgeting and planning happen on a defined cadence. Recruiting is organized and hiring‑manager driven. Payroll and people processes run reliably. Critical SOPs reflect how work is actually performed and have clear ownership and backup coverage. Most importantly, you will have helped build an improved operating backbone that allows Bertec to grow without adding unnecessary bureaucracy or administrative overhead.
