Job Summary Primary responsibility: Performing vascular studies with occasional echocardiograms. The Multi‑modality Sonographer performs basic to advanced ultrasound services, including abdominal, Ob/Gyn, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, and small parts. The role involves interpreting the patient's clinical history, framing the examination's purpose, and expanding the scan as needed. Schedule Hours of operation are variable – must be available from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Must be flexible to work extended hours when needed. On‑Call On‑call, which includes weekends and holidays. Weekend starts at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and ends at 7:00 a.m. on Monday. Must be present/on‑site within 1 hour of call. Travel Travel 1–2 times a month, rotational – occasionally travel with a portable ultrasound machine to a continuing‑care facility across town to perform echoes. Credentials and Education Multi‑credentialed sonographers must have two credentials : RCS – Registered Cardiac Sonographer through CCI RDCS – Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer through ARDMS RVT or RVS Education: Graduate of an accredited technical or associate degree program in radiology and at least two years’ professional experience with intermediate‑level echocardiography or vascular skills. Desired Skills Proficient in transthoracic echocardiography Teach and share knowledge base with fellows, team members, and participate in training Cardiology Fellows and students during clinical rotations Familiarity with Philips iE33/EPIQ systems Essential Functions of the Role Perform multiple modality ultrasound procedures using various equipment and techniques. Make necessary measurements for accurate, high‑quality results. Identify and define abnormalities specific to the procedure. Extend the examination scope appropriately, deviating from standard techniques when necessary. Correlate other diagnostic test results with anatomy and function. Utilize appropriate protection measures during procedures. Assist physicians in procedure and operating rooms by performing ultrasound studies to aid in complex procedures and reduce risk. Prepare patients for procedures and obtain clinical history, including physical findings and lab data. Fit imaging techniques for comprehensive exams to avoid errors. Explain the purpose of the ultrasound examination to the patient and answer questions. Record statistics and perform daily maintenance of the ultrasound Lab and its equipment, reporting all malfunctions as appropriate. Act as a resource to other staff, physicians and students regarding equipment, techniques, procedures and studies to optimize patient care. Work closely with the ultrasound team to ensure quality processes and adherence to protocols. Assist with unit or organization accreditation activities as delegated. Implement protocols as new technology evolves, and ensure implementation and adherence to system standards. Assure operation of equipment by performing quality checks following manufacturer’s recommendations and troubleshooting equipment as required. Key Success Factors Must be familiar with approved clinical protocols for each type of ultrasound examination to be performed. Must meet all qualifications for any two of these modalities: Ob/Gyn, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, or small parts. Work a minimum of 25 % of the time in the second modality. Pediatric and adult scopes are studied as separate specialties by certification. Knowledge and ability to apply complex sonographic methods, instrumentation and techniques. Knowledge of relevant anatomy and physiology for each different specialty. Knowledge of proper infection control, including precautionary procedures. Knowledge of relevant laws regarding patient confidentiality and privacy. Ability to interact and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with healthcare providers, including other sonographers, physicians and nurses. Skilled in the utilization of computers and medical equipment. Qualifications Education – Graduate of an accredited program or at least 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification. Experience – 2 years of experience in ultrasound. Basic Life Support (BLS) – BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer. Must have two of the following: • Advent Cardiac Sonographer (ACS) • ARRT‑S Sonography (ARRT‑S) • ARRT‑VI Interventional Rad (ARRT‑VI) • Musculoskeletal Sonography (MSK) • Reg Congenital Cardiac Sono (RCCS) • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) • Reg Diag Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) • Ped.
