Substation Project Engineer

Substation Project Engineer | On-site | Full Time | $110k - $150k

I’m partnering with a growing engineering firm that is expanding its Substation Engineering capabilities and looking to add an experienced Substation Project Engineer to its team.

This is a leadership position for someone who wants to remain hands-on with the engineering while taking greater ownership over project delivery, client relationships and team development.

What you’ll be doing

• Mentor, schedule and provide technical direction to junior engineers, designers and CAD operators
• Serve as the primary customer point of contact for assigned projects, managing client relationships, project delivery and customer satisfaction
• Perform and direct substation engineering across areas including physical layout, protection and control, relay settings, field support, commissioning and relay testing
• Lead project design activities, including engineering calculations, design development and the application of established engineering procedures and design manuals
• Prepare and/or direct the preparation of complex project documentation, including specifications and bid documents
• Perform and direct detailed drawing reviews, including checking and marking up complete plan sets to ensure designs are clear, accurate and aligned with project intent
• Provide technical leadership and quality oversight across project deliverables
• Supervise and assist with the training and development of Project Engineers I and II
• Work collaboratively with employees at all levels across the organization
• Promote and support a strong company-wide safety culture by following established safety standards, policies and best practices
• Use Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook to support engineering and project management activities
• Support other related engineering and project responsibilities as needed

What they’re looking for

Ideally, you’ll have 5–10 years of applicable substation engineering experience, with a strong background across physical substation design, Protection & Control and/or related power delivery engineering. Previous experience leading engineering teams and working directly with utility or engineering clients is particularly attractive.

You’ll also need:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Strong experience with substation engineering and design
• Experience across multiple areas such as physical layout, Protection & Control, relay settings, commissioning, relay testing and field support
• Experience mentoring and directing engineers, designers and CAD personnel
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees and clients at all levels
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
