Biomedical Engineer

Job Family: Medical Data Analyst & Researcher Travel Required: None Clearance Required: Ability to Obtain Public Trust What You Will Do Maintain, perform repairs, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment used within the BSL‑1 and BSL‑2 laboratories. Provide customized solutions and platform engineering to accommodate instrumentation needs and deliver maintenance reports for all NCATS active instruments. Collaborate with researchers on system interfaces and design between multiple medical equipment manufacturers, especially when commercial equipment is unavailable or unacceptable. Maintain, repair, modify, fabricate, install, and test electronic and mechanical components, and assist in the installation and initial checkout of finished equipment. Analyze, modify, plan, install, evaluate, certify, and correct system malfunctions. Maintain laboratory organization and assist in compliance with safety regulations. Work with staff on assignments related to utilizing biotechnology to improve healthcare systems and devices. Design and fabricate high‑quality mechanical, electro‑mechanical, and optical instruments in support of research activities. Fabricate special‑purpose devices for clinical and research applications and manufacture and repair special parts for various lab equipment. Evaluate alternative design approaches considering material properties and machining capabilities to select the best solution. Provide technical expertise in the use of special devices and equipment to enhance experimental productivity and success. What You Will Need Bachelor’s degree At least five (5) years of Biomedical Engineering experience Knowledge of biomedical regulatory requirements Proficiency with MATLAB Experience with computer and embedded processor programming Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD "public trust"; candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred What Would Be Nice To Have Strong written and oral communication skills Ability to manage several high‑priority tasks simultaneously Salary The annual salary range for this position is $65,000.00 – $108,000.00.
