Position Summary

The Student Access Office Graduate Assistant role provides leadership in the preparation, scheduling, and proctoring of timed assessments for students with disabilities. This role includes maintaining an assessment and room schedule, communicating with students and faculty members as needed for gathering materials and scheduling assessments, and the proctoring of exams to students with disabilities throughout the semester. This role also provides general support for the everyday operations of the Student Access Office. This is a 9-month position and is supervised by the Director of the Student Access Office. The Graduate Assistant will work 12-15 hours per week and may require flexible hours during busy exam weeks during the semester such as finals week. The position is classified as a Graduate Assistant and is eligible for a housing waiver during the fall and spring semesters.

Responsibilities:

• Adhere to strict confidentiality requirements of student communications/records related to disability and related accommodation matters.
• Manage a shared calendar of accommodated exams for designated testing areas on the Avila campus.
• Communicate with faculty members, staff members, and students as needed to prepare, schedule, and proctor accommodated exams.
• Assist with the standardized proctoring of accommodated exams in the designated testing areas as needed each week
• Assist with the particularly heavy schedule of proctored exams during midterm and finals weeks (may require additional or flexible hours during these time periods)
• Other administrative tasks as needed throughout the semester.
• Performs additional job-related duties and responsibilities as requested.

Qualifications:

• Must be admitted and enrolled in a graduate program at Avila University. International students are not eligible for graduate assistantships.
• The successful candidate for this position will possess a bachelor's degree and must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, a commitment to student development, higher education, creativity, vision, passion, and compassion are imperative.
• Knowledge and understanding of the confidentiality requirements of services provided through the Student Access Office.
• Ability to plan, implement, evaluate and report activities conducted.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and to prepare written and electronic documents.
• Ability to communicate orally, both in person and by telephone.
• Ability to establish rapport with others as a requisite for the provision of student services.
• Ability to present oneself in an appropriately personable and professional manner to students and staff.
• Ability to receive and utilize constructive feedback regarding performance, presentation and relationships with others.
• Ability to be both consistent and flexible as circumstances warrant.
• Ability to effectively weigh and evaluate personal needs, student needs and the aims and policies of the school and to respond and negotiate these competing needs as appropriate.
• Ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging or unplanned situations when provided with appropriate supervision and direction.
• An enhanced level of self-awareness as to how he/she/they relates to others and an ability to effectively modulate this personal style as conditions warrant.
• Ability to communicate via computer email.
