Information Assurance/Security Engineer - Linux Systems Specialist

OverviewAMERICAN SYSTEMS is an employee-owned federal government contractor supporting national priority programs through our strategic solutions in the areas of Information Technology, Test & Evaluation, Program Mission Support, Engineering & Analysis, and Training.The Information Security Engineer - Linux Systems will be responsible for administering, securing, troubleshooting, and optimizing Linux-based systems in complex operational environments. This role requires deep hands-on Linux administration experience paired with strong networking knowledge, including the ability to diagnose and resolve issues across system, application, and network layers. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in secure environments, supporting critical infrastructure, and developing advanced capabilities using shell scripting or Python.ResponsibilitiesInstall, configure, secure, and maintain Linux operating systems in enterprise and mission-critical environmentsAdminister Linux servers, services, user accounts, file systems, patches, and access controlsMonitor system performance and availability, analyze logs, and troubleshoot complex operational issuesServe as a primary technical resource for network troubleshooting across Linux hosts and connected infrastructureConfigure, manage, and troubleshoot network services and protocols, including TCP IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, firewalls, and interface bondingAnalyze packet flow, connectivity, latency, and service communication issues across local and remote systemsSupport network integration and interoperability of Linux systems with mission platforms, enclaves, and external interfacesDevelop, maintain, and enhance system capabilities using shell scripting and or PythonImplement system hardening, patching, and vulnerability remediation in accordance with security requirementsSupport backup, recovery, continuity, and system restoration proceduresCollaborate with cybersecurity, network engineering, software, and systems engineering teams to maintain reliable operationsMaintain technical documentation, network diagrams, system procedures, and configuration baselinesSupport lab, test, deployment, and operational environments as requiredProvide support for specialized defense systemsQualificationsBachelor's degree and 2-4 years of related work experienceUS Navy and submarine system experience highly desiredRed Hat/Linux certifications desiredStrong networking skills desiredPay Transparency StatementAMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $85,000.00/Yr. - USD $120,000/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
