What You Will Do


As a Senior Center Assistant, you will coordinate the delivery of a Senior Center Nutrition Program, plan and provide nutrition education sessions, and lead volunteers. Reporting to the Senior Center Manager, you will provide overall program assistance, including leading center operations as needed. The work you do will support the provision of congregate meals and nutrition education for older adults.


Essential Duties

• With a trauma informed approach, provide programming and administrative support for overall center operations, assignments, and projects.
• Plan and coordinate the delivery of a nutrition program, including dining room preparation, welcoming and registration of clients, meal service, and site clean-up. Track, maintain, and order kitchen supplies.
• Develop and provide nutrition education sessions that will engage center members.
• Collect statistical data and compile nutrition, meal and other reports as required by management or government agencies.
• Increase participation for nutrition programs by finding opportunities to enhance the variety and appeal of the meals while adhering to Older Americans Act nutrition guidelines.
• Assist the Senior Center Manager to plan, implement, and promote programs and activities for older adults.
• Collect and record monetary donations.
• Perform duties of the Senior Center Manager in their absence.
• Ensure all work is complete and timely to support department goals. Evaluate feedback and procedures to improve efficiency.
• Exhibit integrity, ethics, and fiscal responsibility.

You Might Be a Good Fit If

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
• One or more years of related experience
• A comparable amount of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirement.

Required Licenses and Certifications

• CPR, AED, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogen certification (or must obtain within six months of employment)
• National ServSafe certification (or must obtain within first year of employment)

Additional Information

• Requires criminal background check as condition of employment.
• May be required to work outside of standard hours.
• Must be able to provide own transportation as needed for local travel.

Working Conditions

• Frequent physical activity: standing/walking, pushing/pulling, bending, reaching, lifting and carrying, climbing steps, squatting, stooping, kneeling, and related activities.
• Occasional exposure to potentially adverse environmental conditions, including, but not limited to, chemicals, noise, and airborne particles.
• Must wear appropriate PPE as required.
