The successful candidate will be responsible for underwriting, managing, and growing a book of energy business, including risks across oil & gas, renewables, power generation, and related sectors. The Energy Underwriter will assess complex risks, develop tailored solutions, and contribute to Starr’s continued leadership in the energy insurance market.Key Responsibilities:Analyze, evaluate, and underwrite new and renewal energy insurance submissions, including property, casualty, and specialty lines.Assess complex risks within the energy sector, such as upstream, midstream, downstream, power generation, and renewables.Develop and maintain broker relationships to drive profitable growth and retention of the energy portfolio.Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing in line with Starr’s risk appetite and guidelines.Collaborate with claims, risk engineering, and actuarial teams to holistically assess and price risks.Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks in the energy market.Support and mentor junior underwriting staff as required.Ensure compliance with Starr underwriting policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.Participate in portfolio reviews, reporting, and audits as needed.Key Requirements:Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience (preferably in insurance, business, engineering, or related field).3+ years of commercial underwriting experience, with a focus on energy sector risks highly preferred.Strong technical underwriting, analytical, and negotiation skills.Deep knowledge of energy industry operations, trends, and insurance products.Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with brokers and clients.Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.Proficiency with underwriting platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.Preferred Qualifications:Professional insurance designations (e.g., CPCU, ARM, ARe) are an asset.Familiarity with international energy risks or complex/specialty energy placements.Starr is an equal opportunity employer, which means we'll consider all suitably qualified applicants regardless of gender identity or expression, ethnic origin, nationality, religion or beliefs, age, sexual orientation, disability status or any other protected characteristic.
