VP, Global Strategic Sourcing

Overview:The VP, Head of Global Strategic Sourcing, will serve as a key enterprise leader responsible for setting and executing Alnylam’s global strategic sourcing, supplier management, and third-party risk strategy. As a member of the Finance Leadership Team, they will partner closely with senior leaders across R&D, Technical Operations, Commercial, and Corporate Functions to optimize enterprise-wide spend, strengthen supplier capabilities, mitigate risk, and enable the company’s long-term growth strategy. The Vice President will lead a global organization responsible for strategic sourcing across direct and indirect spend categories representing approximately $2 billion in annual external spend and will drive transformational initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, accelerate innovation, create sustainable value, and position sourcing as a strategic business partner across the enterprise. The role will balance financial value with quality, service, speed, supplier performance, innovation, business continuity, risk reduction, stakeholder experience, supplier diversity, sustainability, and working-capital outcomes. This leader will establish a forward-looking sourcing vision, leveraging market insights, AI-enabled and digital sourcing capabilities, and strategic partnerships to support Alnylam’s evolving business needs.Key Responsibilities:Develop and execute a comprehensive global strategic sourcing strategy aligned with Alnylam’s corporate objectives, growth plans, and long-term financial goals, while partnering with Procurement Operations to support effective end-to-end source-to-pay execution.Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, influencing enterprise decisions related to supplier strategy, balanced value creation, risk management, and strategic sourcing transformation.Act as a strategic leader on the Finance Leadership Team (FLT), contributing to broader enterprise planning and business priorities, including annual budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, demand management, and external-spend governance.Drive a culture of accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence across the sourcing organization.Lead all global strategic sourcing activities, including category management, strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, commercial and contract negotiations, sourcing governance, and market intelligence; partner closely with Procurement Operations on purchasing processes, buying channels, supplier enablement, and source-to-pay performance.Develop and refresh multi-year category strategies covering the majority of external spend, integrating business demand, supply-market dynamics, total cost of ownership, supplier performance, risk, innovation, diversity, sustainability, and short- and long-term enterprise priorities.Build and maintain executive-level relationships with key strategic suppliers and partners to drive innovation, value creation, business continuity, and competitive advantage, including executive sponsorship, joint objectives, supplier performance scorecards, and structured governance for strategic and critical suppliers.Establish and manage a multi-year portfolio of sourcing initiatives that deliver measurable and Finance-aligned value, balancing realized savings and cost avoidance with demand management, working capital and cash flow, productivity, quality, service, speed, innovation, supplier performance, business continuity, risk mitigation, stakeholder experience, supplier diversity, and sustainability.Oversee sourcing strategies across both direct and indirect spend categories while ensuring support for current operations and future growth, with depth across the specialized requirements of R&D, clinical development, Technical Operations and Quality, Commercial, technology, and corporate functions.Lead and own the enterprise third-party risk management program, ensuring effective risk-based due diligence, onboarding, assessment, ongoing monitoring, issue management, remediation, governance, and reporting across the third-party lifecycle.Partner with Legal, Compliance, Quality, Information Security, Data Privacy, Finance, Procurement Operations, and other risk-domain owners and other stakeholders to strengthen supplier oversight and governance processes, including business continuity, financial, quality, regulatory, cyber, privacy, ethics, compliance, geopolitical, concentration, and artificial-intelligence risks.Set and execute an AI and digital sourcing strategy that uses trusted data, analytics, automation, market intelligence, and responsible AI to improve decision-making, productivity, sourcing outcomes, stakeholder experience, and third-party risk management.Ensure effective adoption and integration of sourcing technologies and data across category strategy, eSourcing, spend analytics, contract lifecycle management, supplier relationship management, third-party risk management, and performance reporting.Establish scalable best practices, frameworks, and operating models that enhance efficiency, decision-making, and stakeholder experience, with clear interfaces among Strategic Sourcing, Procurement Operations, Legal, FP&A, Finance Operations, and business stakeholders.Monitor marketplace trends, geopolitical developments, and industry dynamics to proactively identify opportunities, risks, and sourcing strategies.Establish executive scorecards and governance that measure realized financial value, spend influenced, category-strategy coverage, cycle time, supplier performance, critical third-party risk, stakeholder experience, digital adoption, diversity, and sustainability outcomes.Lead a high-performing global sourcing organization by attracting, developing, and retaining top talent; fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and performance-driven culture; and driving leadership development, succession planning, and organizational capability to support Alnylam’s continued growth and scalability, including capability building in category strategy, negotiation, financial acumen, market intelligence, business partnering, AI, digital sourcing, and third-party risk.Champion Alnylam’s supplier diversity and responsible sourcing programs, advancing the organization’s commitments to inclusion, sustainability, and corporate responsibility.Establish metrics and accountability mechanisms to measure progress against strategic sourcing diversity and sustainability objectives.Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, or a related field required; MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred.15+ years of progressive leadership experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, supply chain, or related functions, including at least 10 years of biopharmaceutical industry experience.CPSM or MCIPS professional certification desired.Demonstrated success leading global strategic sourcing organizations and managing complex direct and indirect spend portfolios of comparable scale, ideally $1 billion or more.Proven track record developing and executing enterprise-wide sourcing strategies that drive measurable business value, operational efficiency, and financial impact, with demonstrated ability to balance savings and cost avoidance with quality, service, speed, innovation, supplier performance, resilience, risk, working capital, stakeholder experience, diversity, and sustainability.Deep expertise in strategic sourcing, category management, strategic negotiations, supplier relationship management, contract management, and third-party risk management.Demonstrated biopharmaceutical sourcing experience across a meaningful combination of R&D and clinical services, manufacturing and CMO/CDMO relationships, quality-related spend, Commercial, technology, and corporate services.Experience leading large-scale organizational transformation initiatives, including AI-enabled and digital sourcing strategies, sourcing technology adoption, spend and supplier analytics, automation, data governance, and process modernization.Demonstrated experience owning or leading an enterprise third-party risk management program in a highly regulated environment, including cross-functional governance and ongoing monitoring of critical suppliers.Exceptional executive presence and ability to influence senior leaders, cross-functional stakeholders, and external partners.Strong financial acumen with experience driving balanced value creation, budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, demand management, working-capital improvement, and value realization initiatives.Demonstrated ability to build, inspire, and develop high-performing global teams while leading effectively through growth and change.Experience operating in a highly regulated global environment and navigating complex supplier ecosystems across multiple geographies, including business continuity, quality, compliance, cyber, privacy, geopolitical, concentration, and AI-related third-party risks.Ability and willingness to travel globally for strategic supplier engagements, business partnership, and team leadership.#LI-JD1 #LI-HybridU.S. Pay Range$284,800.00 - $385,200.00The pay range reflects the full-time base salary range we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Base pay will be determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, and education.
