Description:

Candidates must be aware of the rural environment of the facility. The unit has 2 OR suites and 1 endoscopy suite. There are 1-6 OR cases and 12 colonoscopies performed per day, 3 days per week. Pain management cases are conducted 2-3 days per week in the endoscopy suite. Common types of cases include general surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, endoscopy, and pain management. ACLS and BLS certifications are required if the nurse is working in recovery and the OR. Only BLS certification is required for strictly OR positions, with ACLS preferred. BLS is the only requirement for surgical techs, who must also have certification. Patient-to-nurse ratios are 1:1 or 1:2 for recovery. The electronic medical record system used is Meditech. Charge nurses do take assignments. Operating room techs are present on the unit. Shifts are 8 hours with staggered start times, including some starting earlier and others starting later. The call team consists of a registered nurse and an OR tech. There is no set requirement for call, as it is divided among staff. Registered nurses typically take 6-8 call shifts per month. Weekday call begins after the surgery day ends. Weekend call is 24 hours Friday and Saturday. Call response time is 45 minutes. Holidays require 24-hour call, which is also divided among staff. Scrub colors are provided. Surgeons are on call 24/7, including for general and orthopedic cases. There is no IV team available; however, respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Pharmacy hours are from 6 AM to 5:30 PM, with Omnicell for after-hours needs. Pharmacists can provide support over the phone at night if necessary. Floats may have to attend recovery; dedicated pre-operative nurses are present, and some are cross-trained to assist in endoscopy. Scrubbing is preferred for registered nurses. Candidates must be aware of the rural environment of the facility. The facility maintains a cancellation policy where up to 4 shifts may be canceled during a 13-week assignment. Charting is conducted using the Meditech system.
