Registered Nurse NICU

Job Description Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. The staff RN utilizes the nursing process with technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence‑based practice, and coordination of care with other health team members. Our NICU has 10 beds and is a Level II NICU. It collaborates closely with our L&D and Maternity units and offers a supportive, growth‑oriented environment. Position: Full time, 36 hours per week, primarily nights. Benefits: Eligible for the hospital’s comprehensive benefits package. Essential Functions Assess: Perform appropriate assessment of physical, social, and psychological status, including cognitive, communicative, and developmental skills. Seek and evaluate information from interdisciplinary team members, patient, family, physicians, and support staff. Plan: Use assessment information and critical thinking to collaboratively develop individualized plans of care. Actively involve patient, family, team, and physician in planning and education. Prepare patients for future support needs once current episode outcomes are met. Implement: Direct the interdisciplinary care team through delegation, coordination, and collaboration as appropriate. Provide or delegate care consistent with the plan of care and professional licensure provisions. Demonstrate the ability to set priorities and coordinate patient care delivery by managing time, supplies, and resources effectively. Evaluate: Evaluate patient response to interventions via review of goal achievement, clinical outcomes, patient and family satisfaction. Revise the plan of care as indicated and reassess changes as appropriate. Professionalism: Promote nursing practice and participate in professional development. Integrate legal and ethical standards, comply with regulatory standards, practice within the scope of licensure, provide accurate and timely documentation, and understand the legal implications of care delivery. Valid compact licenses must be transferred within 60 days of employment. RN must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or be willing to obtain one within four (4) years of hire date. Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers. Preferred Qualifications One or more years of RN work experience. NICU RN experience. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required as of April 27, 2025. Physical Requirements Ability to see, read, and assess information, labels, and patient needs; operate monitors and identify equipment and supplies. Regular verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors; interpret alarms, spoken information, and urgent needs quickly. Manual dexterity to manipulate complex equipment with precision; frequent computer use and typing for documentation. Lift, transfer, and move patients and supplies, including items up to heavy weights. Walk and assist with transport of patients; push or pull gurneys and other equipment; navigate crowded rooms. Stand in a stationary position for extended periods. For driving roles: ability to drive safely, see signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles. Location Intermountain Health Layton Hospital – Layton, Utah Schedule & Compensation 36 hours per week, primarily nights. Hourly rate ranges from $35.22 to $53.29, dependent on experience.
