About the Position Please Note: Review of applications will begin on April 3, 2026. This position is temporary through December 31, 2026, with the possibility of reappointment. The Think by the Bay Program Coordinator works in close partnership with the Program Director to provide leadership, day-to-day coordination, and implementation of CSU East Bay’s inclusive postsecondary education program for students with intellectual disabilities (ID). In collaboration with the Program Director, the Coordinator supports the overall success of the program by working closely with lead program faculty and other part‑time staff, providing lead work direction to temporary student support staff, and ensuring strong academic integration and compliance with institutional and grant-related requirements. While the Program Director serves as the primary liaison between the program and university departments, faculty, families, and community partners, the coordinator helps sustain effective communication, coordination, and daily operations across all areas of the program. This role is integral to advancing Think by the Bay’s mission of delivering high-quality, inclusive academic, social, and career development opportunities for students. Responsibilities Program Operations, Staff Leadership, and Student Support Oversight Coordinate all day-to-day operations of the Think by the Bay program, including student schedules, academic support, campus navigation, and program logistics. Provide lead work direction and support program mentors, peer mentors, and independent living student staff. Oversee hiring, onboarding, and training of new staff. Monitor student progress and ensure supports are individualized, person-centered, and aligned with inclusive higher education best practices. Maintain program records in accordance with institutional and FERPA guidelines. Ensure accessibility of campus resources and services for all participating students. Faculty Coordination, Family Communication, Interagency Partnership, and Grant Oversight Serve as liaison to faculty and staff to ensure inclusive academic access and classroom participation for TBTB students. Coordinate with Disability Services to ensure appropriate accommodation and implementation of universal design practices. Maintain regular communication with families regarding student progress, goals, and support needs. Develop and sustain collaborative partnerships with Local Education Agencies (LEAs), regional centers, community-based organizations, and employers. Track program data and assist in preparing reports for grant compliance and evaluation purposes. Support implementation of transition planning and employment outcomes for students. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior. General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned. General knowledge of individual counseling techniques. General knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned. Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned. Abilities Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature. Interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action. Carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Experience Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required. A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling. Education Equivalent to graduation from a four‑year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job‑related. Preferred Skills and Knowledge 3–5 years of experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities in inclusive, postsecondary, or transition-based settings. Experience collaborating with and/or supervising staff to coordinate educational or support services. Master’s degree in a related field. Experience with federal or state-funded grants (e.g., TPSID). Familiarity with the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) and inclusive postsecondary education programs. Knowledge of California transition systems, regional centers, and vocational rehabilitation. Strong understanding of inclusive education, person-centered planning, and disability services in higher education. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills (both written and verbal). Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate logistics across departments. Familiarity with data collection and reporting for grant-funded programs. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Flexibility and ability to attend occasional evening or weekend events.
