Reports to: Site Coordinator
Compensation: $625/month stipend
Status: Part-time; non-expemt
Schedule: 2 days/week, 3 hrs./day (6 hours/week total)

What We Do:
Woodcraft Rangers provides TK-12 expanded learning programs, including before and after school, specialty enrichment, and summer learning. In the past few years, Woodcraft has expanded its menu of services beyond traditional afterschool programs and summer camps to include early learning, environmental and social justice, college access, and inclusion services for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Additionally, we offer Lifecraft, a college and career advancement program to support the development of approximately 1,500 staff. Today, Woodcraft Rangers serves more than 30,000 youth ages 4 to 18 each year across 160 plus Title I schools in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties, and continues to expand its reach.

Job Summary:
JKL Instructors are responsible for ensuring a fun, safe, and active learning environment for club participants, co-leading a twice-weekly fitness and wellness club alongside a fellow instructor. JKL Instructors have the opportunity to grow, connect, and have a lasting impact on student health, confidence, and community involvement. Other members of the team include a Site Coordinator, who oversees the program, and a Community Liaison who supports the site coordinator.

The JKL Instructor position is an on-site position, including attending training at the Woodcraft Rangers main office in Little Tokyo and school sites as required.

Role Overview:

• Create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all program participants, staff, and families — both physically and emotionally
• Co-plan and co-facilitate club sessions with a fellow instructor, following a pre-planned fitness and wellness curriculum
• Lead engaging physical activities and basic nutrition and healthy-lifestyle lessons for high school-aged students
• Support students in goal-setting and gratitude practices as part of the program curriculum
• Track attendance and participant engagement, ensuring active involvement in program activities
• Build positive relationships with participants, colleagues, and stakeholders
• Partner with your co-instructor and Site Coordinator to plan and facilitate required community service events
• Complete weekly and monthly program reports
• Request materials ahead of time so the Site Coordinator can keep supplies stocked and on budget
• Stay current on safety protocols, trainings, and certifications, and follow all emergency procedures
• Attend field trips and staff development trainings as required
• Report to the Site Coordinator on assigned duties
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Ideal Candidate:
Ideally, we are looking for someone who is energetic, positive, reliable, and organized, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a co-instructor. We're looking for a JKL Instructor who is passionate about fitness and healthy living and can inspire high school students to build confidence, healthy habits, and a spirit of community service.

Requirements:

• Minimum 1 year of experience working with high school youth in coaching, education, camps, or youth programs preferred
• Associate, Bachelor's degree, or current enrollment in a related field preferred.
• Passionate about fitness, healthy living, and youth development
• Energetic, positive, and engaging with high school-aged students
• Basic knowledge of fitness, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle habits
• Comfortable leading activities by following a pre-planned curriculum
• Strong communication and classroom/group management skills
• Ability to motivate and encourage students of varying abilities
• Passion for community service and inspiring youth to give back
• Reliable, organized, and able to create a safe, inclusive environment
• Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain; can be provided by Woodcraft Rangers)
• Valid FBI & DOJ Livescan clearance. Current TB Test clearance
• Ability to pass required background checks
