Job Overview The purpose of this position is to provide care, custody, and control of inmates, ensuring the safety and security of inmates, other officers, the facility, and the public. Responsibilities Monitor inmates' behavior and the facility to ensure safety, taking steps to avoid violence and violation of rules. Provide for inmates' physical care, supplying food and materials as well as transporting to health appointments. Process bookings, releases, reclassifications and maintain detainees' property and paperwork. Ensure detention facilities are kept sanitary and in good working order. Observe inmates for rule violations and behavioral changes; maintain appropriate use-of-force continuum as needed for self‑defense or defense of another. Schedule, supervise, and control inmate activities and maintain discipline; diffuse potentially violent situations; physically restrain uncooperative or disruptive inmates and take steps to avert fights, assaults, riots and escapes; physically escort inmates outside facility. Supervise safety and security of staff, inmates, visitors and detention facilities; promote acceptable attitudes and monitor behavior of inmates. Perform constant inspections of all detention facility areas; assure all areas are safe, secure, sanitary and free of contraband. Provide care for inmates; dispense and oversee meals; administer medications and oversee inmate hygiene and showers; schedule medical, counseling, personal, and other appointments; schedule transportation for appointments and visits outside of facility; transport, document, and arrange transport for inmates and ensure inmates attend all court appearances. Conduct booking of inmates, completing required forms; search, examine and test inmates according to policies; collect and inventory inmate property; maintain inmate property, financial, and corrections records. Process authorized release of detainees; return all property to inmates upon release and notify victims; verify documentation for completeness and accuracy before releasing inmates; file and distribute records to appropriate divisions within County. Update and maintain a variety of files, records, event logs, charts, and other documents; maintain appropriate records and prepare reports as required. #J-18808-Ljbffr Gila County
