Classified - School Bus Driver

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Education: Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalency preferred.
2. Must possess or able to obtain a valid Nebraska CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements.
3. Must possess a good driving record.
4. Must have a positive attitude and be teamwork oriented.
5. Saturdays and Sunday availability helpful but not required.
6. Must be physically able to respond to emergency situations that could potentially occur while driving.
7. Must be dependable and reliable.
8. Must be able to interact professionally and calmly with students and families.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (Include, but are not limited to)

• Drives routes at regularly assigned times.
• Ensures the safety of students by maintaining a safe environment on the bus and monitoring the safety of bus stop locations.
• Reports to the bus barn 30 minutes before assigned depart times to complete pre-trip safety inspections of the bus and/or small vehicle.
• Understands and follows all rules and regulations for bussing as set forth by the State of Nebraska and the Board of Education.
• Keeps the interior of the bus clean.
• Monitors safety supplies in and on all special education vehicles.

  • Insurance card and registration
• Ensures that only registered and approved students and staff ride in the vehicle.
• Informs the Transportation Director of any accidents or traffic violations immediately.
• Exercises sound judgment and maintains good public relations with parents, students, and staff.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: (Intellectual, Sensory)

• Accepts responsibility.
• Proficient in written and oral communication.
• Works well with children and adults.

WORKING CONDITIONS: All weather

At Will Employment : Employment with the Kearney Public School district is not for any period of time, and employment may be terminated at any time at the convenience of the terminating party, with or without cause, and with or without notice.
