[POOL] PT Faculty, Adult Basic Education/GED

Position: PT Faculty, Adult Basic Education/GED (Pool position) Job Summary The Adult Basic Skills instructor provides an instructional program to meet students’ needs in compliance with the Adult Education Act. The instructor reports to the Dean of Academic Foundations and Extended Learning and is responsible for instructional tasks, as well as other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor. Reapplication Requirement Applicants must reapply to the pool annually to maintain active status. Essential Duties Act as a team member of the Adult Basic Skills Department. Instruct assigned basic skills and GED preparation. Monitor and evaluate learning progress and determine learning needs of students. Provide a classroom environment conducive to student learning. Teach classes following approved course outline, prepare and develop materials, and provide students with course syllabi reflecting objectives. Participate in Learning Standards training and ongoing professional development; demonstrate lesson planning utilizing Learning Standards. Maintain close supervision of students’ attendance. Participate in curriculum development, recommend textbooks and other instructional materials, and recommend course outline revisions. Maintain college facilities and equipment. Keep abreast of technological changes and instructional innovations, and pursue continuous professional development. Attend staff meetings, work cooperatively with department colleagues, respond to emails and departmental requests promptly, and represent the department at pertinent meetings. Promote a positive image of the college and its programs. Participate in departmental processes designed to recruit and retain students. Participate in Student Appraisal of Classroom Learning. Maintain posted office hours and provide class time for student advising and support. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Work is performed in an office or classroom setting with minimal exposure to safety or health hazards. Ability to operate a keyboard or other office equipment and sufficient visual acuity to recognize alphanumeric characters are required. Sufficient hearing and speaking ability to communicate effectively with staff and students is also required. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in education or related field, or equivalent combination of experience and training related to teaching and/or working with the GED population. One year full or part‑time experience in an instructional setting teaching adults. Master’s degree with a major in Adult Education, Reading, English, Math or related field, or completion of 27 graduate quarter hours in Education or related discipline preferred. Experience teaching adults in ABE/GED programs or non‑traditional alternative programs; experience teaching basic computer skills preferred. Teaching experience in a community college preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Documented ability to plan and implement instructional programs appropriate for adult learners. Proficient use of computers. Ability to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities. Effective communication skills as a teacher and teamwork. Valid or previous OR 7‑12 teaching license preferred. Fluent in Spanish language preferred. Knowledge of strategies and techniques for instructing students with disabilities preferred. Employment Requirements Criminal Background Check - C4. Salary and Compensation Courses are paid on a per‑credit basis. New part‑time faculty begin at Step1 of the pay scale and may roll to higher steps each term if eligible. Benefits All new employees are required to be compensated via direct deposit.
