Registered Nurse

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who coordinates patient care delivery by the healthcare team. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient and identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems. The RN develops and implements an individualized plan of care and evaluates the patient's response. The RN promotes safe passage for their patients by applying knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment. They assist patients in transitioning through the healthcare encounter without preventable complications or delays. The RN delegates interventions to healthcare personnel based on nursing practice standards and each patient's condition. This role involves clinical judgment, effective communication, and collaboration with team members and specialists. The RN creates a compassionate, supportive, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients and their families. They develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families while maintaining appropriate boundaries. The RN recognizes and incorporates unique patient differences into individualized care plans. They advocate for patients, preserving their confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights. Facilitating learning for patients and families is an essential part of the RN's role. The RN collaborates with colleagues to develop and implement plans of care. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are vital in this position. The RN must be able to observe changes in the medical condition of patients and communicate these changes effectively. Understanding nursing and patient care standards, laws, and ethical practices is essential for success in this role. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary to interact with a diverse range of individuals. General computer skills, including electronic medical documentation and communication tools, are required.
