The Specialty Pharmacy Courier is responsible for the safe, timely, and compliant transport and delivery of prescriptions and supplies to patients’ residences. The role supports pharmacy operations while ensuring regulatory compliance, safety standards, and excellent customer service. As a member of our team, you will be an extension of the Pharmacy and the public face of the organization, showing compassion, patience, and empathy in every interaction. You will build trust with patients, act with a sense of urgency, and seek opportunities to improve and solve problems. Your work has a direct impact on patients’ health, and you will approach each interaction with care and respect. Roles and Responsibilities Safety Follow infection control, safety procedures, and hazardous material handling protocols. Ensure safe operation of the vehicle at all times. Follow all NYS vehicle traffic laws and safety precautions. Maintain preventive maintenance work orders when needed. Use proper lifting techniques during work tasks to prevent lifting injuries. Documentation & Compliance Maintain delivery logs and chain‑of‑custody documentation. Ensure proper handling and transport conditions in accordance with pharmacy policies and regulations. Support pharmacy workflow with timely delivery of medications and supplies. Adhere to HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality. Deliveries & Transportation Follow assigned schedules and accommodate urgent delivery needs when requested. Provide professional customer service to staff and patients. Act courteously toward other vehicles on the road and maintain a record of no aggressive driving complaints. Keep the vehicle clean during and after hours of operation; wash vehicle with supplied vouchers when needed. Maintain a professional appearance at all times. Wear clearly visible, weather‑appropriate Cayuga Medical Center-branded attire while on duty. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Skills and Experience Education: High School Diploma or GED. Experience: Preference for two years of driving experience with the ability to drive in all weather conditions. Must be 21 years of age or older. Must have a valid NY State driver’s license and a clean driving record. Preferred Skills and Experience Problem‑solving ability and attention to detail. Good written and oral communication skills. Ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely, and adjust to changes in work volumes. Physical Requirements Ability to lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Responsible for loading and unloading items into the vehicle, including boxes, equipment, and supplies. Ability to sit for long periods of time while driving; deliveries occur during a standard 8‑hour workday in Ithaca and surrounding counties. Location and Travel Requirements Based at Cayuga Medical Center, 201 Dates Drive, suite 109, Ithaca, NY 14850. Shift: Full‑Time Days FLEX. Anticipated schedule Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Flexibility required to support department needs. Local area travel between facilities will be a daily requirement. Pay Range Disclosure Standard rate of $17.00 to $20.00 per hour.
