Residential Construction Estimator

We are seeking a Residential Construction Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive, and commercially sound cost estimates for residential building and renovation projects. The successful candidate will review architectural drawings, specifications, site information, and client requirements to develop detailed estimates covering labour, materials, subcontractors, equipment, permits, and other project-related costs. You will work closely with project managers, designers, suppliers, trades, and clients to clarify scope, identify potential risks, and ensure estimates reflect current market conditions and construction standards.


Key responsibilities include preparing quantity take-offs, pricing schedules, tender submissions, budgets, and variations; obtaining and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotations; maintaining estimating records and cost databases; and monitoring changes in pricing, materials, and construction methods. You will identify omissions, discrepancies, and opportunities for cost efficiencies while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. The role will also involve supporting pre-construction planning, contributing to project handovers, reviewing costs against approved budgets, and communicating assumptions and exclusions clearly to relevant stakeholders.


Applicants should have demonstrated experience estimating residential construction projects, preferably across new builds, extensions, renovations, or multi-unit developments. Strong knowledge of residential construction processes, materials, trades, building regulations, and relevant industry practices is essential. You will need excellent numerical, analytical, organisational, and written communication skills, together with the ability to interpret technical documentation and manage multiple deadlines. Proficiency with estimating, take-off, spreadsheet, and project management software is highly desirable. A practical, collaborative approach and a commitment to accurate, transparent, and timely work will be important to success in this position.
