Registered Nurse Emergency Room

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Room (ER) provides skilled nursing care focused on emergency and critical care patients. This role involves patient assessment, management of dysrhythmias and multisystem organ failure, administration of emergency medications and blood products, and performing procedures such as phlebotomy and IV placement. The nurse collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary team to ensure high-quality care in a fast-paced ER environment, requiring strong clinical skills and the ability to manage multiple acuity levels. Responsibilities:

• Perform patient assessments and interpret dysrhythmias in an emergency setting.
• Manage patients with multisystem organ dysfunction or failure.
• Administer blood products, emergency medications, IV vasopressors, continuous IV paralytics, and sedation.
• Provide central line care and management.
• Perform phlebotomy and start intravenous lines (IVs) as required competencies.
• Administer procedural sedation and manage patient isolation precautions.
• Document patient care accurately using Epic electronic health records.
• Float to other units as census requires.
• Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive emergency care.
• Maintain compliance with all safety and clinical protocols in the ER.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience; first-time ER nurses accepted.
• BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), and NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certifications.
• Competency in phlebotomy and IV insertion.
• Strong skills in dysrhythmia interpretation and management.
• Experience with emergency medication administration including vasopressors and sedation.
• Proficiency in Epic electronic health record system preferred.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with blood product administration and central line care.
• Familiarity with procedural sedation techniques.
• Ability to manage mixed and shared patient acuity levels effectively.

Special Considerations:

• Mandatory competency in phlebotomy and IV placement.
• Float to other units as needed based on census.
• Minimal Return to Office (RTO) restrictions.
• Every other weekend work required.
• Open to accommodating block schedules, though not guaranteed.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced emergency department environment.

Scheduling:

• Night shift from 3:00 PM to 3:00 AM.
• Block scheduling accommodations may be attempted but are not guaranteed.
• Work every other weekend as part of the schedule.
