System Administrator IIIReports to: Director of TechnologyPay Grade: Adm/Professional - PG6Dept/Campus: TechnologyWage/Status: ExemptDays: 240Primary PurposeThe employee will provide the role of systems administrator and technical operations. Duties will include but not limited to maintaining essential IT operations, including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, email systems, and data center infrastructure. The employee, under the direction of the Director of Technology, will also provide management support for the system administration team supervise the systems division.QualificationsBachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in IT related area preferredMCSA, MCSE (Preferred)Special Knowledge/SkillsKnowledge of a broad range of relevant multi-user systems, applications, and/or equipment.Skilled in planning, design, installation, testing, and modification of basic systems or supporting subsystems.Possesses specialized skills in the use of one or more programming languages specific to the assignment.Ability to analyze and interpret information systems proposals of limited scope and impact or assist with analysis of larger projects; ability to develop according to a specified set of requirements and deliverables.Ability to specify and develop computer programs or subsystems of limited scope and impact using a range of programming languages.Knowledge of network hardware and software applicationsKnowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.Experience2+ years of experience performing system installation, upgrades, management and maintenance2+ years of experience of server administration and support preferredEssential Job FunctionsConduct detailed systems analysis to define software requirements. Perform all phases of software development, including analysis, design, writing code, testing, and implementation, and ensure that developed software is designed to meet technical and user requirements.Analyze system hardware and software problems and develop technical solutions.Write and maintain detailed systems documentation including user and technical manuals.Work with stakeholders and users to determine programming needs, clarify requests, translate user and systems requirements into functional technical specifications, and provide technical assistance.Act as a liaison between developers and end users to ensure technical compatibility and satisfaction.Provide programming-related support for administrative applications (e.g., student, payroll, finance, personnel).Coordinate business systems-related issues with regional educational service center staff, including identification of and assistance with the resolution of program problems, design of systems enhancements, and implementation of system enhancements.Strong working knowledge of Microsoft server and Microsoft Active DirectoryExperience with virtualization platforms, such as VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper VKnowledge of identity access management toolsAbility to communicate with users outside the department with tact, good judgment and confidentialityStrong knowledge of data privacy and security requirements and proceduresStrong knowledge of disaster recovery, data safety and integrity, and development of bulk import/export proceduresComply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policyPerform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements for the positionSupervisory ResponsibilitiesOversee the systems administrator team, providing leadership, coaching and performance managementPlan, direct and develop system administrator team; assign and monitor tasksLead troubleshooting and root cause analysis to prevent recurring issuesEvaluate vendors, manage software licensing, and ensure compliance with technical and local/state/federal requirementsManage projects, budgets and resource allocation for IT initiativesEnsure alignment of technical operations with district objectives and compliance standardsProfessional ConductMaintain professional interactions with staff, parents, community and visitorsDemonstrate the ability to remain calm and withstand pressuresDemonstrate flexibility to change in routine and adapt quickly to changing situationsDemonstrates respect, courteousness to peers and visitors, and assist fellow workers willinglyEquipment UsedPersonal/laptop computer, printer, copier, fax machine, shredder, calculator, and telephone, electronic mobile devices, projector, display monitor computer, related repair and other technology equipmentPhysical Demands /Mental Demands/ Environmental FactorsThe working conditions described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Learned physical skill is required for keyboarding and use of peripheral equipment.Employees carry out system and network administration functions independently, with a sound understanding of the interactions between hardware, operating system software and network operations and the design and administrative requirements to ensure an efficient, reliable, secure infrastructure.The employee is expected to bring projects to conclusion, including development of operating procedures, instruction and training, and required documentation. Work is performed, and technical decisions made with some latitude for independent judgment.
