AMA-Certified Medical Assistant - Cardiac Surgery Support
Join a dedicated healthcare team supporting physicians and licensed medical staff in a busy cardiac surgery clinic located in the Southeastern United States. This role involves both administrative and clinical responsibilities, ensuring patients receive compassionate and efficient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with patient vital signs, update charts, and compile relevant data in compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
- Administer care under physician supervision, including treatments, dressing changes, medication administration, and therapies.
- Support providers during procedures and examinations, including chaperoning and setup.
- Handle and prepare instruments for sterilization and manage biohazard and pharmaceutical waste according to OSHA guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and safe patient care environment by following infection prevention protocols.
- Manage front desk duties such as greeting patients, scheduling appointments, and assisting with coding and billing processes.
- Coordinate with external healthcare partners to support patient care plans.
- Monitor electronic health record communications and respond promptly.
- Perform components of well visits and scheduled nursing visits as directed.
- Float to other clinics as needed and perform high-level disinfection tasks.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant II program or enrollment in a master's level Health Science program, or at least 2 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant.
- Preferred certifications include CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent from recognized organizations.
- Two years of clinical experience in an outpatient setting is preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to recognize and respond to life-threatening situations and activate emergency services.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with patients, staff, and providers both in person and via phone.
- Physical ability to perform clinical tasks including standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
- Comfortable with potential exposure to blood and other infectious materials.
