Location Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060. Department Information We are a collective of interdisciplinary and community-engaged scholars committed to investigating and addressing social problems, which are broadly defined as conditions or behaviors that have a negative impact on society. We examine and understand these problems using scientific approaches, including applied, theoretical, and evaluation research. Faculty expertise broadly includes sociological, criminological, and criminal justice research areas related to social harms, social organization and disorganization, policing, courts, and correctional systems, life course sociology and criminology, causes and correlates of crime and deviance, responses to crime, laws, policies, and practices, and myriad forms of inequality. Finally, SCJ faculty are scholars and teachers committed to excellence in teaching and mentorship to ensure our graduates are ready for life and work after college. Faculty in the department engage in multiple forms of experiential education and high-impact practices to synthesize their teaching, research, and service roles. Job Summary Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Sociology in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice with a preferred start date of August 2027. This is a nine-month contracted position and is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia. Responsibilities Maintain a productive, high-impact program of research and scholarship. Pursue external funding in support of research and scholarly activity. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in research methods and statistics in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice, including in the M.S. in Criminal Justice program, along with introductory and substantive courses aligned with the candidate's expertise and departmental needs. KSU uses a differentiated workload model. The baseline teaching workload is 9 credit hours (i.e., 3 courses) per semester. Teach courses across varying modalities (face-to-face, hybrid and online) and class sizes (including large class sizes) on the Kennesaw and/or Marietta campuses. Engage and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research that supports their academic and professional development. Contribute service to the department, college and university, including committee work and shared governance. Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines. Required Qualifications An earned doctoral degree, or the foreign equivalent, in Sociology or a related discipline is required at the time of hire. Demonstrated training and expertise in quantitative research methods and applied statistics, as evidenced by graduate coursework, publications, presentations or teaching. Demonstrated experience teaching research methods and/or statistics, or demonstrated preparation to do so. Demonstrated productivity in research and scholarship, as evidence by publications, presentations and/or scholarly work. Preferred Qualifications Evidence of effective teaching across multiple modalities (face-to-face, online, and hybrid). A program of research employing advanced quantitative or computational methods (e.g., hierarchical modeling, structural equation modeling, causal inference, longitudinal, spatial or network methods). A substantive research agenda in one or more subfields: medical sociology, demography/population studies, public health or criminology. Demonstrated potential for, or a record of, securing external research funding. A record of publishing scholarship in reputable outlets. Ability to teach courses that serve both the Sociology and Criminal Justice programs, including at the graduate (MSCJ) level.
