Diagnostic Radiologist

Radiology Contract Provider
The contract provider will be capable of performing a full range of radiology services to include but not limited to:
- Routine Diagnostic Examinations. Interpret and/or perform routine examinations consisting of, but not limited to:
- Head and Neck
- Chest
- Mammography
- Abdomen
- Spine and Pelvis
- Extremities
- Fluoroscopy
- CT Exams
- MRI Exams (Including Breast MRI)
- Ultrasound Exams
- Nuclear Medicine Exams
- Submit Diagnostic Radiology Reports in accordance with established procedures.
- Adhere to the Center for Disease Control guidelines concerning universal precautions and the MTF Infection Control Program.
- Provide advice, professional opinions and written technical studies and professional reviews as requested by the Chief of Radiology in support of the various boards and committees within the MTF involved with evaluation of patient care and treatment.
- Facilitate patient access to medical care by recommending appropriate referrals to other health care providers in accordance with policies and regulations of the medical treatment facility.
- Attend and participate in local professional staff conferences, committee meetings, and other appropriate professional activities as determined by the supervisor as workload permits during scheduled duty hours.
- Review and interpret special procedures and nuclear medicine studies obtained on DoD beneficiaries from local and/or regional civilian medical centers, and Veterans Administration Hospitals within twenty-four (24) hours after receipt in the Department of Radiology if requested in writing by the Chief, Department of Radiology.
- Provide advice and opinions upon request by the Chief of Radiology in support of diagnostic interpretations of radiological examinations and procedures as provided in conjunction with patient care end treatment as provided by the contractor.
- Read STAT/"wet" diagnostic studies.
- Interpret all routine studies (including plain films, MRI, CT, US, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine as available at the MTF) and submit a written report within twentyfour (24) hours after the study is performed.
- Interpret all STAT studies and provide report within 2 hours.
- Accomplish fluoroscopic exams and special procedures (i.e. arthrograms/injections, biopsies, drainages, etc.) on the daily schedule established at the direction of the Chief, Department of Radiology. These fluoroscopic exams and special procedures require same day interpretation.
- Prepare all records and reports as may be required in support of services rendered and as required by the MTF, Federal law or Army regulation.
- Take part in hospital Quality Assurance Programs as required to meet the standards of the Joint Commission.
- Attend and participate in patient care reports, local patient care conferences, local team conferences, local professional staff conferences and other appropriate local professional activities only to the extent that such attendance and participation is relative to his/her assigned cases and/or performance of contract services as determined by the Chief of the Department or other designated representative.
- Perform and provide diagnostic interpretation of radiologic examinations, and provide diagnostic consultation related to diagnostic imaging to other members of the medical staff. Examinations, procedures, and studies performed will include the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic work that would be performed by a board certified or board eligible diagnostic radiologist. Routine studies such as plain film interpretation, the normal range of fluoroscopic examinations and common invasive procedures, the interpretation of CT scans and the performance of ultrasound and mammographic exams are required. - Oral Cholecytograms
- Abdomen/KUB
- Spine and Pelvis
- Extremities
- Venogram
- Myelogram
- Tomography
- Arthrogram
- Urethrogram
- CT scans
- Hystosalpingiogram
- Cholangiogram
- Upper GI/Barium Swallow
- Retrograde Cysto- Urethrography
- Percutaneous Biopsy and/or Aspiration Small Bowel
- Follow Through/Enteroclysis Barium Enema (Single and Double contrast)
- Mammogram (to Include Needle Localization and Stereotactic Biopsies)
- Other (Gall Bladder, Fistulograms, Galactograms)
- Voiding Cystourethrography *
- Nuclear Medicine Studies Magnetic Resonance Studies
- *Catheter insertions may be necessary
- ** May need to initiate Intravenous Access
- Each FTE will read a minimum of 700 weighted workload units/Relative Value Units (RVUs) (approximately 1200 studies monthly—MRI readers may read less per month).
- The contract radiologists must be nuclear medicine authorized.
- All contract radiologists at all times must be able to perform procedures to include but not limited to arthrograms/injections, breast biopsies (US guided/stereotactic), breast wire localization (free hand and stereotactic), CT guided drain placement, thyroid FNA, Hysterosalpingogram, lumbar puncture and lymphoscintigraphy.
- All contract personnel must maintain active email accounts and check these accounts at minimum once per day to ensure timely responses to consulting physicians.
Qualifications
Degree: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.).
Education: Graduation from a medical school in the United States, Canada, or approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (AMA), graduation from a college of osteopathy approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or graduation from a medical school with evidence of Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification. Board eligible radiologist who has completed a residency in a program utilizing the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), which includes all American trained Physicians, and that is an accredited Diagnostic Radiology Training Program.
Certifications: Basic Life Support
Experience: Shall have at least four years of experience in caring for patients within the last six years and shall have at least one year's experience on a civilian or military hospital staff. Shall have evidence of skill and experience in Diagnostic Radiology subject to verification and comprehensive documentation, as determined by the privileges granted from the current practice site and current evaluation from the Department Chief. Shall have experience in performing the full scope of general diagnostic radiology to include performance of examinations/procedures and interpretation of same in the areas of plain film radiology, Fluoroscopy, Neuroradiology, Ultrasonography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (including Breast MRI), and Computerized Tomography. Must meet and maintain Mammography certification in accordance with the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA).
Board Certification: None. While board certification is desirable it is not mandated upon start of service (work, practice or whatever) but he/she will be expected to earn board certification in a reasonable time frame.
Licensure/Registration: Contract workers requiring licensure shall have and maintain a current, valid, unrestricted license specific to the position (with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions) in one of the 50 US States and/or territories. Additional licenses held by a provider must be in good standing whether they are inactive, expired, or limit the provider's practice to a military setting. The healthcare provider's license(s) must remain current, valid, and unrestricted throughout the duration of the contract worker performance on the contract. The DHA PM 6025.13, vol 4, is the governing directive for all licensure, registration, and certification. Adherence to the outlined requirements within the DHAPM 6025-13, Volume 4, shall be met. Contract workers under a non-personal services arrangement requiring licensure are not afforded licensure portability and must maintain a license in the U.S. State/Territory they are providing patient care per 10 USC 1094 and the DHAPM 6025-13, Volume 4.
