Psychiatric Registered Nurse

This position provides optimal care utilizing knowledge and skills within the context of evidence based psychiatric nursing practice and the theory of human caring.

The psychiatric registered nurse on the Alert Team must be able to work interdependently within a team framework and demonstrate competency with mental health/chemical dependency assessment and referral. The incumbent must provide optimal care through assessment, planning and evaluation of adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and their families. The incumbent must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and must be able to initiate contact with internal and external resources on behalf of the client. Working knowledge of the 12-step recovery process, and the ability to empower clients to use their own internal resources as well as to access relevant external services is essential. This person must demonstrate the ability to work with patients and their families and various caregivers in different settings. This person must have thorough knowledge of community resources and be capable of making appropriate referrals. This position may require travel to other sites within the health system to conduct in-person patient assessments when virtual evaluation is not feasible due to the nature of the assessment or technical limitations. This position does not provide patient care.

Minimum Qualifications Requirements - Required and/or Preferred

Education: Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English.

Experience: Three years of experience in applying behavioral health / chemical dependency clinical care and recovery services to psychiatric and/or chemical dependency setting required. 12-step expertise preferred.

License(s): Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Registered Nurse license.

Certification(s): None.
