Evening Circulation Assistant (Temp-to-Hire) Pay: $17.00/hour Schedule: Evening hours aligned with the academic calendar Benefits Upon Permanent Hire: Excellent benefits package and paid holidays Position Summary The Evening Circulation Assistant serves as a key member of the library services team, providing prompt, knowledgeable, and efficient customer service to patrons. This role is one of the primary front-line service positions and is essential to the smooth operation of the library. Standard Schedule: Sunday through Thursday: 1:00 PM - 10:00 PM while school is in session 3:00 PM - 12:00 AM during final exam periods Monday through Friday during operating hours when classes are not in session Key Responsibilities Library Closing Duties Perform end-of-day shutdown tasks, including securing equipment, clearing tables, and organizing shelving carts. Coordinate with security personnel during library closing procedures and report any security concerns. Evening Operations Support Serve as the primary point of contact for unexpected situations during evening hours. Assess situations and contact appropriate personnel when necessary. Patron Services Enforce library policies and access requirements. Check library materials in and out. Provide reserve materials and circulation assistance. Answer directional and basic reference questions. Assist patrons with study room reservations and fax services. Direct patrons to appropriate resources and staff for additional assistance. May be trained and certified as a Notary Public to assist patrons as needed. Technology Support Assist patrons with printers, copiers, wireless printing, computers, and Wi-Fi access. Replace paper and toner supplies. Resolve basic equipment issues and report more complex problems. Submit technology support requests and coordinate service calls when necessary. Collection & Facility Maintenance Shelve and organize materials using standard library classification systems. Perform shelf reading and collection maintenance. Maintain the appearance of study spaces and public areas. Assist with collection shifting projects as needed. Report facility issues and coordinate maintenance requests. Administrative Support Track usage and patron statistics. Assist with data entry, reporting, and filing activities. Student Worker Support Assist with training and oversight of student assistants as directed. Interlibrary Loan Support Serve as a backup for interlibrary loan processing and maintain familiarity with related procedures. Qualifications Education Associate degree preferred. Two years of library circulation desk experience working directly with patrons may be substituted for the degree requirement. Experience 1-3 years of relevant customer service, library, administrative, or circulation experience required. Preferred Skills Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to work independently during evening hours. Basic technology troubleshooting skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Dependable and professional work ethic.
