Job Title: Traffic Department Operative

This is full-time (Operatives) position in the City's Public Works Department. An individual in this position will be responsible for providing technical support to the Traffic Department. Reporting relationship: Traffic Operations Manager.

The job duties include installing, programming, and maintaining traffic signal radios, switches, Bluetooth devices, Battery Back Up (BBU) systems, and CCTV cameras; CAT 5 network installation and maintenance; programming, troubleshooting, and repairing network communications for the entire city traffic signal operation network. Network communication from signal to servers to Traffic Management Center; overseeing and directing ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) and tower contractors. Conducting normal and preventative maintenance, installation, inspection, and repair to the City's traffic signal systems to ensure proper operations at all times; responding promptly to all call-outs, including after hours and holidays; troubleshooting, diagnosing, and/or taking corrective action to restore the City's traffic signal systems to full and optimal operation; requisitioning and installing parts to repair the City's traffic signal system; evaluating signal timing, adjusting signal timing, and making recommendations for signal timing changes; performing recordkeeping activities pertaining to traffic signal timing plans, inventories, maintenance activities, and construction plan sheets; developing schedules and coordinating preventative maintenance activities to ensure proper and efficient operations of the City's traffic signal systems; coordinating all activities relating to traffic signal intersection pavement markings and signing; directing activities of Signal Technician I; performing other related duties as assigned; subject to 24-hour recall.

College or Technical Degree in Networking or a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate and a minimum of five (5) years of technical experience in the maintenance and networking of Traffic Signal Systems required. Must obtain International Municipal Signals Association (IMSA) Work Zone Traffic Control Safety Certification and Traffic Signal Level II Certification within one (1) year.
