General Dynamics in St Leonards-on-Sea currently provide avionic mission computing systems for a wide range of military fast jets, helicopters, and UAVs. Recent success has resulted in General Dynamics developing the next generation of Advanced High Performance, Safety Critical Mission Computer Systems to meet the needs of latest platforms in development by several aircraft manufacturers. These Mission Computing Systems provide the functionality that integrates aircraft systems, sensor systems and stores management systems with the information and control systems required by the aircrew to meet the demanding operational needs of these aircraft.

Job Description

Join our security engineering team and help deliver future combat-air capability as part of the GCAP programme. You will work on complex, safety-critical mission-computing systems, embedding security into the product architecture and engineering lifecycle.

Working alongside specialists across systems, software, hardware, safety and certification, you will help ensure that security risks are identified, understood and addressed through robust engineering solutions. This is an opportunity to influence the design of advanced airborne technology while contributing to a strategically important UK defence programme.

This is a product and systems security engineering role , focused on embedding security into complex, safety-critical airborne mission systems.

In this role you will:

• Develop and maintain security requirements for complex airborne electronic and mission-computing systems
• Undertake threat modelling, vulnerability analysis and security risk assessments throughout the engineering lifecycle
• Support the development of security architectures and secure-by-design solutions
• Produce the security evidence, documentation and assurance arguments needed to support accreditation
• Work closely with systems, software, hardware, safety and certification engineers to ensure security is embedded within the overall product design
• Review proposed designs and identify security weaknesses, risks and proportionate mitigations
• Engage with customers, partners and internal engineering teams on product-security requirements and technical decisions
• Contribute to the development of technologies that will support future combat-air capability

Qualifications

Essential experience

• Experience in product security, systems security, cyber-security engineering or security assurance within a complex engineering environment
• Knowledge of Secure by Design principles and relevant product and systems security standards, with experience embedding security throughout an engineering lifecycle
• Experience undertaking security risk assessments, threat modelling, vulnerability analysis or security requirements development
• Ability to interpret technical designs and communicate security risks and mitigations to multidisciplinary engineering teams
• Experience producing clear technical documentation and security assurance evidence
• Degree-level qualification in engineering, computer science, cyber security or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience

Desirable experience

• Experience within aerospace, defence, safety-critical systems, embedded systems or another highly regulated sector
• Knowledge of mission systems, avionics, embedded computing, real-time systems or secure communications
• Experience supporting product accreditation, certification or formal security-assurance activities
• Experience using requirements-management, risk-management or security-analysis tools within a structured engineering environment
• Experience working within a model-based or requirements-led systems-engineering environment
• Experience working with or familiarity with AI/ML models is preferred

Additional Information

This role has a salary of between 45,600 - 60,000 plus our flexible benefits package.

We are open to this role being spent with time working from home and in the office (hybrid - typically 3 days working in office) on a weekly basis or fully in our offices.
