2026-2027 English Teacher Hoke County Schools – Hoke County High School, Raeford, North Carolina Position Type: Full‑Time (10 months) Terms of Employment: Full Time (10 Months) Salary: NC State Salary Schedule FLSA Exempt/Non‑Exempt: Exempt Starting Date: Aug 10, 2026 Job Description Title: English Teacher (Grades 9-12) Reports to: Designated Principal Qualifications Must hold or have the ability to obtain a North Carolina Teacher License, or meet the qualifications for a Residency Teacher License. Essential Job Functions Cooperate in developing annual objectives for the school and plan an instructional program incorporating these objectives. Incorporate learner objectives compatible with the subject, grade level, established curriculum, and student needs. Assess instructional program to determine its effectiveness. Maintain an effective program by establishing and maintaining adequate knowledge of subject areas and child growth and development. Attend and participate in staff development, professional learning communities, and other relevant training. Stay abreast of and implement current evidence‑based research practices to increase student achievement. Ensure instruction, materials, and procedures are appropriate for the subject and student needs. Ensure application and practice are used by students to acquire or reinforce concepts or skills. Encourage students, parents, and others to become actively involved in daily instructional activities. Collaborate with parents, employees, and community to create a supportive approach to reaching students. Assess individual student abilities to devise techniques that will accommodate differences in rates of learning, styles, and ability levels. Monitor individual student achievement and provide remediation as required. Implement professional classroom management techniques to maintain a suitable instructional environment. Make use of community resources, student talent, volunteers, and other staff to enhance the instructional program. Demonstrate respect for the dignity and worth of all students, value cultural differences, and maintain communication with parents. Accept responsibility for non‑instructional duties as may be assigned by principal, superintendent, school board, or other administrative personnel. Conduct personal conduct that promotes a safe, secure, orderly environment and fosters a climate of respect at the school. Report acts of violence to the principal. Primary Functions Direct the growth and development of pupils. Assume responsibilities toward safe, efficient operation and improvement of the total program of the school. Teach required curriculum as adopted by the Board. Additional Responsibilities (if assigned) Bus duty Cafeteria supervision Playground duty Supervision of extra‑curricular activities (subject to policy) Attend professional development or other training Service on committees All other duties as may be assigned by Superintendent, principal, or supervisor(s). Physical and Cognitive Requirements Light physical work; may require exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally. Must be able to prepare, read, comprehend job‑related forms, reports, spreadsheets, maps, plans, records, documentation, and correspondence in all languages required. Understand and conform to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Speak with poise, voice control, and confidence. Respond adequately to inquiries or complaints. Write using standard convention in all languages required. Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. Use common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Communicate effectively in all required languages using various communication devices or systems. Interpret job‑related terminology, mathematical formulas, and functions efficiently. Deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Perform under stress, adapt to emergency situations.
