Bus Driver - Special Program Route (Monroe ISD)

Reports To: Director of Transportation & Buildings and Grounds

Qualifications Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Must have no points on driving record and able to pass physical including drug test. Experience: Previous experience as a bus driver for special needs children preferred Skills: Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License. Must pass State Skill Test and State Written Test. Ability to work with and an interest in handicapped students. Ability to read and understand maps. Ability to pass State Skill Test, State Written Test, Department of Transportation physical and MDE Basic Training Program. Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Obeys all traffic laws and observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.

2. Maintains discipline when students are on bus, and reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.

3. Keeps assigned bus clean.

4. Keeps to assigned schedule.

5. Perform required maintenance and safety check on assigned bus, and reports any mechanical problems or concerns to proper authority.

6. Exercises responsible leadership when on extra school trips.

7. Transports only authorized students.

8. Reports all accidents and completes required reports.

9. Completes all paperwork on a regular basis as required.

10. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers and visitors.

11. Complies with all state of Michigan school bus driving regulations.

12. Maintains regular, predictable attendance.

13. Follows work rules.

14. Carries out all other responsibilities as assigned by Director of Transportation, Buildings & Grounds or Superintendent.

15. Supervises students while transporting them.

16. Other duties as assigned.

17. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to sit and occasionally required to walk or stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee frequently repeats the same hand, arm or finger motion many times. The employee frequently uses hand strength to grasp tools and is continuously driving on the job. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as students. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and peripheral vision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 100 and below 32 and occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with public and other workers. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud to where you have to raise your voice to be heard.

Qualifications / Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Must have or ability to obtain a CDL license with endorsements S, P, and B prior to start of school year. (Training available) Experience working in a school setting preferred
