Substance Abuse Specialist

Overview We are hiring for a Substance Abuse Specialist to provide compassionate, evidence‑based support to a diverse group of individuals experiencing substance use disorders through all phases of the treatment continuum in both individual and group settings. Location & Schedule Location: Taylorsville Outpatient Office & Community Settings Schedule: Monday – Friday Salary $48,000 – $62,000 based on licensure and experience. Responsibilities Provide individual sessions to explore overall goals, treatment plans, and measurement of goal completion; assess further needs for successful recovery and program completion. Conduct utilization reviews based on assessment information, treatment progress, and established guidelines to determine eligibility for services, continuation of services, and discharge; complete service authorization requests and maintain current authorization. Utilize assessment recommendations and input from client, family, and other supports to develop person‑centered treatment plans; provide ongoing monitoring and revision of plans as indicated. Provide preventive and therapeutic interventions in individual, family, and group counseling sessions including skills building, supportive counseling, and case coordination to help clients manage substance abuse, mental health symptoms, and adaption to home, school, and other environments. Consult with psychiatrists or other medical personnel regarding behavioral observations, concerns, and medication management. Document treatment interventions, community support, and client progress according to state and agency requirements within 24 hours following billed activities. Participate routinely in Interdisciplinary Team Meetings across agency and community settings. Qualifications Qualified Substance Abuse Prevention Professional as defined by state agencies and service definitions. Must be a fully or provisionally licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS/LCASA), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW/LCSWA), or Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor (CADC). Willingness to obtain additional licensure within 60 days of hire if required. Knowledge of harm‑reduction techniques, including Medication Assisted Treatment. Strong commitment to client‑centered care, continuous learning, and professional growth. Education & Experience Qualified Substance Abuse Prevention Professional defined as: Graduate with a Master’s degree in a human service field and at least one year of full‑time, post‑graduate supervised experience. Graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in a human service field and at least two years of full‑time, post‑bachelor’s supervised experience. Graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in a non‑human service field and at least four years of full‑time, post‑bachelor’s supervised experience. Certified as a Certified Substance Abuse Prevention Consultant (CSAPC) by the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board and meeting the above requirements.
