The Data Center Technician role involves in‑depth hardware and network diagnostics, physical repair, and participation in an on‑call rotation. AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centres and all the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. (GovCloud may NOT be accessed from outside of the United States). NOTE: Lump sum stipend will be provided to eligible candidates who relocate for this position. Key Job Responsibilities Perform server rack installations, hardware break‑fix on various components, troubleshoot network issues, respond to operational incidents that impact service availability, and carry out routine network, server hardware, and operating system repairs to contribute to the overall availability of AWS services. Serve as a primary contact point for both internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors. Perform on‑call duties and participate in scheduled maintenance and change management activities. Contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on analysis of operational issues. Help interview, train and onboard new team members. Physical Requirements Lifting and moving material up to 40 pounds each. Working in cramped and/or elevated locations. Bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching. Standing and walking for up to 8+ hours a day. Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and gangways safely and without limitation. Work in an industrial environment. Work shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations (covering both night and day shifts). Travel may be required to sites that are still under development, including training assignments until the designated facility becomes fully operational. Essential Requirements Ability to travel to or commute between data centre locations as needed. Willingness to work temporarily at alternative sites during training periods or until assigned facility is operational. Travel frequency will vary based on business needs and operational status of the facility. Must be able to travel over 50 miles or commute less than 50 miles to active data centre sites as required by business needs. A Day in the Life Take ownership of technical issues brought by the customer base, engaging other teams when needed to drive resolution. Show a strong aptitude for troubleshooting and problem solving. Solve problems at their root and step back to understand the broader context. Maintain service level agreements through proactive issue detection and reporting. Act in the absence of direction or support. Improve effectiveness through process innovation. Work shift work that will include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Basic Qualifications 2+ years of computer/server hardware troubleshooting experience, or experience related to IT. 2+ years of computer layer 1/2 networking (including troubleshooting and repair) experience. Flexibility to work weekends, nights, and holidays. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of network design, protocols and troubleshooting. Knowledge of Linux/Unix Administration. Bachelor’s degree in an IT‑related field (e.g., Computer Science, Network Engineering), or equivalent experience in professional or military IT‑related roles. Experience in a data centre or other critical environment. Experience training and onboarding new team members. The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
