Job Description:

Nurse Practitioner (Statewide) Part- or Full-time opportunities

Oregon Department of Corrections

We are seeking healthcare professionals committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care in a correctional health setting. This role offers the opportunity to serve individuals involved in the criminal justice system—an often underserved and medically vulnerable population—while helping address health disparities and improve community health outcomes.

Our care model is collaborative and team-oriented, with physicians working closely alongside nurses, behavioral health clinicians, and other healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated, comprehensive care. This position offers meaningful, mission-driven work and the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of a vulnerable population.

What’s in it for you?

This is more than a job—you’ll find a long‑term career with exceptional stability, competitive compensation awarded based on verified years of experience, and our benefits that outperform most employers. We reward your commitment with guaranteed pay equity adjustments, increased vacation accrual over time, and additional pay for your educational achievements.

DOC employee benefits include medical, dental, vision, and basic employee life coverage through the Public Employees' Benefit Board (PEBB) and retirement benefits through the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). Paid vacation leave and sick leave are accrued monthly and wage increases are awarded in accordance with the applicable labor contract.

Additional applicable incentives:

  • 4.75% for BSN

  • 9.5% for MSN

  • 5% for Lead Worker

  • 7.5% for NP first board certification

  • 2.5% for NP second board certification

  • 5% for bilingual

  • Swing shift – $3.92/hour

  • Night shift - $5/hour

  • Weekend shift - $5/hour

  • Biannual allowance for professional health care attire and footwear

  • Eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)

Multiple full- and part-time opportunities are available at our facilities statewide in Oregon. This recruitment will create a pool of qualified candidates for current and future openings across various locations.

Hours may vary depending on your preference and will be discussed at time of interview. Pay listed is for a full-time employee. Part-time salary will be based on hours worked.

About the Job – Your Role

As the primary care provider, you will develop and implement comprehensive patient treatment plans, manage infections, sprains, and uncomplicated fractures, suture wounds not involving major vessels, nerves, or tendons, and recommend appropriate food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and prescribe antibiotics and other authorized drugs. Cases beyond your diagnostic or therapeutic scope will be referred to physicians or healthcare specialists per established protocols, with direct consultation as needed for complex diagnosis and care management challenges.

A key aspect of your role involves collaborating actively within a network of medical professionals operating both inside the Department of Corrections and across community organizations. By maintaining open lines of communication, sharing critical patient information, and participating in interdisciplinary case discussions, you help ensure that care coordination remains consistent and of high quality throughout the entire continuum of services. This collaborative approach supports the seamless transition of patients between settings, promotes effective follow-up, and strengthens overall patient outcomes.

This position is represented by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.
