JROTC Instructor Starting Date: Aug 1, 2026 Reports to Principal Supervises May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants. Purpose To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. Responsibilities Management of Instructional Time: Provide materials, supplies and equipment ready at the start of each lesson; get the class started quickly; maintain high student time‑on‑task. Management of Student Behavior: Establish rules and procedures for routine matters, verbal participation, movement and monitor behavior during activities; stop inappropriate behavior promptly while maintaining dignity. Instructional Presentation: Begin activities with a review; introduce objectives; speak fluently; present clearly; provide examples; assign tasks; ask appropriate questions; conduct briskly; manage transitions; summarize main points. Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: Maintain standards and due dates; circulate during class work to check performance; use oral, written and other products; pose clear questions. Instructional Feedback: Provide correct/incorrect feedback to encourage growth; give prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work; confirm correct responses; provide sustaining feedback on incorrect or no responses. Facilitating Instruction: Have a plan compatible with curriculum; use diagnostic information; maintain accurate records; align objectives, strategies, assessment and student needs; use available resources. Interacting Within the Educational Environment: Treat students fairly; interact with students, coworkers, parents and community. Performing Non‑Instructional Duties: Carry out assigned duties; adhere to laws, policies and rules; follow a professional development plan. Minimum Training and Experience Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Physical Requirements: Use equipment and tools; exert negligible force to lift, carry, push or pull; consistent with Light Work. Data Conception: Ability to compare and judge data, people or things. Interpersonal Communication: Ability to speak/signify to convey information; receive instructions. Language Ability: Read correspondence, reports, handbooks; prepare forms and instructional materials. Intelligence: Apply logical thinking to define problems, collect data, interpret instructions and deal with variables. Verbal Aptitude: Record and deliver information; explain procedures; communicate in technical or professional languages (medical, legal, counseling). Numerical Aptitude: Use formulas, arithmetic, decimals, percentages; apply descriptive statistics and inference. Form/Spatial Aptitude: Inspect items for proper dimensions. Motor Coordination: Coordinate hands and eyes quickly and accurately with office equipment. Manual Dexterity: Handle equipment and hand tools; minimal eye/hand/foot coordination. Color Discrimination: Differentiate colors and shades. Interpersonal Temperament: Deal with people beyond instructions; adapt under stress and during emergencies. Physical Communication: Talk and hear; communicate via telephone. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Constantly monitor the safety and well‑being of students, especially in inclusive activities. Motivate students. Maintain a clean and orderly environment; perform general clerical duties. Maintain order and discipline in a classroom; operate common office machines. Maintain basic files and records. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by work assignments.
