Salary and Overtime The base annual wage is generated from a base hourly rate of $21.02 per hour under the standard rotating 12‑hour shift schedule. Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate for all hours worked in excess of 40 hours in a 7‑day pay cycle. Additional overtime opportunities for shift coverage may be available per departmental policy and would provide pay in excess of the estimated base annual wage. Job Summary The purpose of this position is to receive incoming emergency and non‑emergency calls; dispatch calls for law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other personnel and services in an accurate, timely, and professional manner; maintain accurate dispatch records; and perform related work as required. This role works according to established procedures but decides how or when to do things; work is reviewed regularly by a supervisor. Services report to the Senior Telecommunicator. Responsibilities Perform dispatch duties for the Consolidated Dispatch Center, including receiving and dispatching emergency and non‑emergency calls for law enforcement, fire, EMS, rescue and haz‑mat response; for various government agencies, utility companies, and other service agencies. Monitor radio communications and alarm panels; provide directions and other information to officers in the field; call wrecker companies as needed. Provide basic medical care instructions over the phone before medics arrive (e.g., CPR, seizure management, airway clearing). Enter information into the system regarding wanted or missing persons, stolen items, and other relevant data. Assist callers with routine information, taking messages, providing directions, and routing calls; initiate calls requested by officers. Maintain tape recordings of dispatch communications; provide copies of tapes as requested and appropriate. Prepare and maintain dispatch and other department records and documentation. Enter and retrieve law enforcement information. Testify in court as necessary. Prepare and submit various reports required by the department, county, and regulatory agencies. Field after‑hour calls for closed offices such as Detectives and County Water. Attend training sessions, workshops, meetings, and other professional development activities to maintain or enhance job knowledge and skills. Respond to inquiries, complaints, and requests for assistance in areas of responsibility. Remain on call 24 hours per day, seven days per week, for emergency response as assigned. Perform general clerical work (preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes). Train new employees when required. Perform other related job duties as assigned. Education and Experience High school diploma or GED. Six months’ experience desired but not required. Able to type at least 35 words per minute. Special Qualifications Must possess Emergency‑911, Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); and complete IC‑100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications within one year of employment. National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certifications required. Additional Information All County employees are considered public servants for the citizens of Dorchester County.
