Registered Nurse - II SJCH 8 Peds Acute Care

Job Description Summary 8 ACU is a 28-bed medical-surgical inpatient unit that provides care for children ages 0–18, with some adult patients up to age 25. The unit features 28 private rooms, including two negative‑pressure isolation rooms, four rooms equipped with patient lifts, and four behavioral rooms. Eight beds are designated for the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. The unit admits patients under multiple service lines, including general pediatrics, inpatient rehabilitation, and ENT surgical services. Common medical admissions include fever, cellulitis/abscesses, respiratory illnesses, asthma, sepsis, and hyperbilirubinemia in infants. Staffing includes Registered Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, Youth Apprentices, and Unit Secretaries. Job Summary Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal‑directed patient care to families and patients at a competent level, utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process to deliver safe and effective care and interact with other members of the health‑care team to achieve desired results. Minimum Training and Education Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and must successfully obtain a BSN within four years of hire or reclassification. (See policy A141 for details.) Minimum of one year of registered‑nurse experience required. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations Licensed registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification: either AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers (or equivalent) or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Physical and Mental Requirements Ability to perform tasks while standing, sitting, walking, and climbing stairs. Ability to work indoors, and sometimes outdoors in temperature extremes. Ability to work from elevated areas, in confined/cramped spaces, from kneeling positions, and with forced bending at the waist. Ability to perform gross and fine motor activities, maintain firm grasp, and handle repetitive hand/wrist/elbow/shoulder motions. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted, and perform other specified lifting thresholds as described. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision (corrected), depth perception, and peripheral vision. Ability to maintain hearing acuity (corrected). Ability to handle stressful situations, maintain latex‑safe environment, and work rotating shifts and overtime as required. Additional sensory capabilities (olfactory, respiratory) as required for selected positions. Medical University of South Carolina is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
