CLASSIFIED SERVICE JOB SPECIFICATIONJOB CLASS:ASSISTANTLEVEL:IPOSITION TITLE:CHILD NUTRITION ASSISTANT ICLASS DEFINITION:Positions within this class are assigned to assist with all components of the cafeteria function in a school kitchen. Successful candidates in this class will typically have a background in one or more trades of the food service industry a demonstrated ability to deal effectively with a variety of personalities and/or the ability to handle money efficiently and effectively. Positions within this class require the ability to work with food and with children and teachers within a set schedule. Levels within this class are differentiated by virtue of the degree of skills and expertise required to perform successfully and by the assignment made. Positions within this class are under the direct supervision of the Director of Food Services or DEFINITION:Under supervision to assist in the preparation of school lunches; to serve lunches at a school cafeteria and to do related work as OF DUTIES:Set up serving linePrepare fruits vegetables sandwiches beverages and other foodstuffsApportion fruits vegetables and other items according to established guidelinesServe food items to students and staffWash serving and food preparation areasMake simple arithmetic computationsOperate dishwasher and other mechanical kitchen equipmentStore unused foodsClean dishes trays pots pans utensils and kitchen equipmentPerform cashiering duties as assignedOperate a computerAccount for money receivedPerform other related duties as assigned EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and four college semester units in school food service preparation or management; or a recognized food services certificate. One year experience in school or commercial food preparation and kitchen maintenance. Knowledge and Abilities- Knowledge of basic food servicing utensils and sanitation principles applicable to food serving and kitchen maintenance; ability to follow written and verbal directions; ability to keep simple records; ability to perform assigned tasks without close supervision; ability to perform work efficiently during rush ABILITIES:Visual capability to read handwritten or typed documents and the display screen of various office equipment and machinesAble to conduct verbal conversation in English and other designated languagesAble to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels)Able to sit stand stoop kneel bend walkAble to stand on hard flooring for sustained periods of to walk on hard flooring for sustained periods of to climb slopes stairs and to push and/or pull a variety of tools and to lift up to 50 pounds to carry up to 50 pounds to sustain strenuous manual labor for 8 hoursAble to exhibit full range of motion for shoulder external rotation and internal rotationAble to exhibit full range of motion for shoulder abduction and adductionAble to exhibit full range of motion for elbow flexion and extensionAble to exhibit full range of motion for back flexionAble to exhibit full range of motion for hip flexion and extensionAble to exhibit full range of motion for knee flexionAble to work in a wide range of temperaturesAble to work at various elevated heights in a safe and effective to work in a wide range of temperaturesAble to work with chemical agents in a safe and effective manner without allergic reactionAble to operate material handling and food transportation equipment in a safe and effective mannerAble to operate food preparation utensils machinery and equipment in a safe and effective mannerAble to collect currency and make changeSALARY SCHEDULE:Classified HourlyEVALUATED BY:Director of Child NutritionEVALUATION REVIEWED BY:Superintendent Business Servicesor designee
