Snapshot / Role Overview
We're seeking a Senior HVAC Estimator in Memphis, TN to own bid strategy and pricing for large commercial, industrial, and institutional HVAC projects at a self-performing mechanical contractor.
Impact
Win profitable work by accurately pricing design/build and plan/spec HVAC, piping, sheet metal, plumbing, and DDC controls projects.
Protect margin through disciplined risk review, vendor negotiation, and clear go/no-go recommendations.
Grow the project pipeline by building relationships with owners, general contractors, and engineers across Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi.
Strengthen the estimating team by setting standards and mentoring junior estimators.
Responsibilities
Lead the full estimating lifecycle for HVAC service, retrofit, replacement, design/build, and plan/spec mechanical projects.
Review drawings, specifications, and site assessments to build accurate labor and material takeoffs across HVAC, piping, and sheet metal scopes.
Lead pre-bid meetings to define scope, risk, and required resources.
Direct vendor and subcontractor pricing and negotiate terms that hit margin targets.
Prepare conceptual budgets for large HVAC projects from limited drawings.
Present value engineering alternatives backed by lifecycle cost and ROI analysis.
Maintain job cost history and pricing benchmarks to sharpen future bids.
Build a personal business development pipeline and collaborate with sales leadership on pursuit strategy.
Requirements
Must-Haves
10+ years of commercial and industrial HVAC estimating; 15+ years preferred for complex design/build work.
Proven experience estimating self-perform HVAC projects over $10M.
Design/build leadership with the ability to develop creative, code-compliant alternatives.
Fluent with estimating and takeoff software such as Trimble Accubid, FastPipe/FastDuct, McCormick, or Bluebeam.
Experience mentoring junior estimators and presenting to executive stakeholders.
