Role Description CAM Technologies is looking for an experienced Controls Engineer with at least 3 years of demonstrated success solving hands-on mechanical challenges. This role is a key member of our engineering team and supports the business through the development, design, installation and support of our CAMLink™ suite of products through PLC-based automation.

\n

This role is equal parts field work (traveling to sites, commissioning systems, interacting with customers), and office work (controls design, PLC & HMI programming). Our customers cover the full spectrum of industrial settings, and we work where the factories are so travel is a requirement. A hybrid work environment is encouraged when not traveling.

Day-to-day tasks include developing control architectures, creating and testing PLC logic and HMI interfaces, integrating sensors and instrumentation, and supporting installation and startup at customer sites. The engineer collaborates with project managers and field technicians to troubleshoot issues, optimize system performance, and ensure safe, reliable operation. Additional responsibilities include preparing technical documentation, updating schematics, supporting existing systems, and contributing to continuous improvement of standards and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Strong skills in Process Control and Control Systems Design for industrial automation applications.
  • \n
  • Demonstrated ability in Troubleshooting complex control systems, including diagnosing and resolving field issues.
  • \n
  • Solid foundation in Electrical Engineering principles related to industrial power, controls, and instrumentation.
  • \n
  • Experience with Robotics or automated machinery integration is beneficial.
  • \n
  • Hands-on experience programming PLCs and developing HMI screens (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens, or similar platforms).
  • \n
  • Ability to read and create electrical schematics and panel layouts using CAD or comparable tools.
  • \n
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work safely in manufacturing environments and in an office/home setting.
  • \n
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • \n
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites for installation, commissioning, and support as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

    \n
  • Experience with Allen Bradley and/or Rockwell Automation products
  • \n
  • Flexible, practical, and objective approach to solving problems with strong, independent critical thinking skills
  • \n
  • Ability to determine the best technical approach based on project, customer, and budget requirements
  • \n
  • Ability to interpret and provide input on electrical drawings, P&ID diagrams, process flowcharts, etc.
  • \n
  • Familiarity with thermodynamic principles of air
  • \n
  • Familiarity with DC control circuits
  • \n
  • Experience with use of PID loops for process control
  • \n
  • Programming experience (even recreational) is a plus
  • \n
  • Knowledge of VPNs and virtualization technology is a plus
  • \n
  • Organized, conscientious, and adaptable in work execution
  • \n
  • Perceptive and understanding in working with customers
  • \n
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • \n
  • Self-motivated, capable of working in a team environment or individually
  • \n

Requirements

  • One of the following:
  • \n
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, computer science, or computer engineering
  • \n
  • 3+ years of experience directly related to industrial automation and controls (e.g. PLCs)
  • \n
  • 3+ years of experience directly related to working with and troubleshooting complex electrical circuits (e.g. avionics technician or similar)
  • \n
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing or industry in an engineering-type role
  • \n
  • 3+ years of experience designing or assessing industrial compressed air systems
  • \n
  • Ability (and desire!) to travel up to 60%
  • \n
  • Located in or willing to locate to the Baltimore, Maryland area
  • \n
  • US Person - This position involves access to technology controlled under U.S. export control regulations (ITAR/EAR). Applicants must be a U.S. Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.62.

  • Valid driver’s license
  • \n
  • Must pass drug screening and background check
  • \n
  • Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders
