Principal Federal HPC Technical Consultant, (Clearance Preferred TS/SCI with Poly) MD or Utah

Principal Federal HPC Technical Consultant Location: MD or Utah (remote/teleworker). Primarily work from home with up to 30% travel required to customer sites. Responsibilities Provide technology consulting to external customers and internal project teams. Lead technical implementation planning and delivery of HPC solutions. Design and maintain Linux‑based HPC clusters, storage, and network infrastructure. Provide architectural guidance on compute, storage, networking, and workload management. Configure, deploy, and maintain HPC software, hosting platforms, and management systems. Offer technical support and troubleshooting for HPC implementation in secure locations. Participate in cross‑functional initiatives and mentor junior staff. Collaborate with sales teams on proposals, proof‑of‑concepts, and pre‑sales activities. Act as principal consultant in customer engagements and lead cross‑functional project teams. Explain complex solutions to senior IT and research leadership. Evaluate and implement new tools, middleware, and methodologies. Qualifications & Skills Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or related field (or equivalent experience). 8+ years of professional experience, with at least 3+ in HPC architecture, systems engineering, or large‑scale infrastructure design. Proficient in Linux, HPC cluster configuration, parallel computing, MPI/OpenMP, GPU acceleration, and workload schedulers such as Slurm, PBS‑Pro, Torque/MOAB. Experience with Lustre, GPFS, Ceph, LVM, RAID, iSCSI and disk partitioning (GPT/MBR). Knowledge of network boot technologies (PXE, gPXE, Etherboot). Exposure to open‑source community and software development tools such as Ansible and GitHub. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and customer‑oriented problem‑solving skills. Ability to communicate product architectures, design proposals, and negotiate options at management levels. Security Clearance & Citizenship U.S. Citizen required. Preferred TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph. Candidates without clearance must be able to obtain the required clearance including the Polygraph. Travel Must be able and willing to travel up to 30%. Travel may involve several weeks at a time depending on client needs. Employment Terms Job Level: TCP_05. Salary range: USD 119,500 – 275,000 (annual) for Maryland & Utah. Variable incentives may also be offered.
