Sr. Infrastructure Engineer

Job Overview:
Search Solution Group is seeking a Sr. Infrastructure Engineer on behalf of our client, a consumer goods company. The Sr. Infrastructure Engineer will serve as the technical anchor for the organization's infrastructure function, providing senior-level expertise across systems, virtualization, networking, security, hybrid identity, backup, and disaster recovery. This role will establish infrastructure standards, develop the technology roadmap, lead modernization initiatives, mentor junior technical staff, and partner with external IT providers to ensure reliable and secure infrastructure operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the escalation point for complex infrastructure, virtualization, networking, backup, and hybrid identity issues.
• Define, document, and maintain infrastructure standards, operating procedures, runbooks, system inventories, and architecture diagrams.
• Develop and maintain a prioritized infrastructure roadmap focused on risk reduction, modernization, capacity, lifecycle management, and business continuity.
• Plan and execute infrastructure migrations, upgrades, consolidations, and hardware refreshes using controlled testing and rollout practices.
• Manage server patching and vulnerability remediation programs, including exception handling and reporting.
• Monitor infrastructure performance, capacity, availability, backup success, and operational risks.
• Identify and resolve infrastructure issues proactively before they impact business operations.
• Test disaster recovery procedures and restore processes, document recovery dependencies, and address readiness gaps.
• Write, review, and maintain PowerShell scripts for provisioning, maintenance, reporting, and bulk operations.
• Partner with managed service providers and external IT vendors on networking and platform changes.
• Define technical objectives, architecture requirements, acceptance criteria, and final project reviews for vendor-delivered work.
• Coach and mentor the Junior Infrastructure Engineer through hands-on problem solving, change planning, documentation, and increasingly complex technical responsibilities.
• Balance strategic infrastructure roadmap initiatives with hands-on execution, including incident response and technical projects.
• Support Microsoft 365, hybrid identity, and messaging environments.
• Ensure infrastructure environments remain secure, reliable, scalable, and aligned with business needs.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements include:
Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and progressive infrastructure experience may be considered.

Experience:

• 6+ years of progressive infrastructure or systems engineering experience.
• Demonstrated ownership of production infrastructure environments at a senior level.
• Experience administering Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualization, enterprise storage, and backup/disaster recovery platforms.
• Experience with hybrid identity and messaging environments, including Entra ID, Entra Connect, and hybrid Exchange.
• Strong PowerShell automation experience.
• Experience working within or managing a co-managed IT or MSP environment.
• Experience setting technical direction and reviewing external vendor delivery.
• Experience mentoring or leading junior technical professionals.

Skills:

• Advanced Windows Server and Active Directory administration.
• Strong virtualization experience with VMware and/or Hyper-V.
• PowerShell scripting and automation.
• Enterprise storage and backup administration.
• Disaster recovery planning and testing.
• Networking and infrastructure troubleshooting.
• Hybrid identity and Microsoft environment administration.
• Infrastructure monitoring and performance management.
• Vulnerability remediation and patch management.
• Technical documentation and architecture development.
• Vendor and managed service provider management.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on technical execution.

Certifications:

• Relevant Microsoft, VMware, security, networking, or infrastructure certifications preferred.

Knowledge:

• Windows Server infrastructure and enterprise systems.
• Active Directory and Entra ID.
• Entra Connect synchronization and hybrid Exchange environments.
• VMware and/or Hyper-V virtualization technologies.
• Enterprise storage, backup, and disaster recovery platforms.
• Microsoft 365, preferably within an E5 environment.
• PowerShell automation and scripting.
• Infrastructure security and vulnerability management.
• Business continuity and disaster recovery practices.
• IT service provider and MSP operating models.
• Infrastructure lifecycle management and modernization.
