SENIOR ACCOUNTING OFFICER (SPECIALIST)

Final Filing Date: 7/14/2026 Application Methods: Electronic (using CalCareer Account) and Mail Drop-off Position Overview The Senior Accounting Officer (Specialist) in the Travel Unit of the Finance Division is responsible for performing professional accounting tasks relating to travel expense reimbursement and the most complex accounting functions, including analyzing, adjusting, and processing claims relating to travel. The officer maintains and reconciles lottery accounting records for travel, serves as lead and subject matter expert to travel accounting staff, and acts as the lottery travel program lead/coordinator. The role independently researches and solves the most complex travel and relocation issues for employees and vendors, reviews and audits CalATERS expense claims, paper Travel Expense Claims (TECs), and supporting documents for accuracy and completeness in accordance with travel policies and regulations. The officer ensures that the lottery travel program complies with all laws, rules, and regulations set forth by CalHR, the Department of General Services, and relevant Memoranda of Understanding. Telework is available; however, employees are required to work in the office at least three days per week based on operational need. Work Location: Lottery headquarters, Sacramento, CA. Telework requires residency in California per California Government Code Section 14200. Exam Requirement: Current Senior Accounting Officer (Specialist) exam, or a current valid exam score. Working Conditions Schedule: Hybrid telework and in‑office schedule available; in‑office workload dependent on business needs. Travel: Travel to/from off‑site training courses may be required. Desirable Qualifications Knowledge of statewide travel rules and regulations. Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Excellent customer service, research, and analytical skills. Experience with presenting information in a clear, concise, and professional manner. Strong leadership skills.
