Database Administrator Senior / Lead

About the Position The Database Administrator Senior/Lead architects, implements, maintains, tunes, and monitors all enterprise databases. The role participates in the design and creation of databases at both a data model and architect level, defines standards and design of physical data storage, performs quality control and auditing of databases to ensure accurate and appropriate use of data, and supports data accuracy and availability for the organization. Position Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. Experience Five (5) years of experience in database design, development, maintenance, administration, and support in a large‑scale enterprise environment. OR Combined education and experience qualifications Other combinations of education or experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year‑for‑year basis. Other requirements Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license or be able to obtain one by the time of hire. Training that may be provided on‑the‑job: FEMA NIMS – IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll; PREA. Prior to hiring, the agency requires that all candidates pass a background review. Preferred qualifications Experience with database technologies used by the agency. Experience with maintenance of Jail Management Systems. Essential Job Tasks Design logical and physical databases to meet system requirements. Establish and monitor processes that extract data from or load data into databases. Provide support, standards, and information relating to database backup, archiving, and data recovery. Perform database and software life‑cycle activities to ensure highest level of system performance and availability and compliance with business requirements. Maintain archival copies of database‑related files and information. Provide documentation and support to users, development and operations staff, and management. Write, test, and put into production all tables, constraints, triggers, stored procedures and permissions. Work with system programmers to create, enhance, and troubleshoot applications. Monitor performance and database usage and adjust as needed. Maintain the integrity, security and availability of the databases. Perform database security processes in compliance with agency policy. Provide physical model recommendations. Provide escalation support for production and nonproduction databases; advise and assist other database administrators. Collect and report data as required for departmental statistics. Perform high availability and disaster recovery – installation and configuration at database layer to include 3rd‑party applications and always‑on availability groups. Assist management in evaluating technology issues, policies and procedures. Be present at the work site to perform tasks as scheduled or assigned by the supervisor. Working Conditions Work occurs primarily indoors. Tasks require managing emergencies, interruptions, time pressures, and high work volume. Responsibilities require teamwork, concentration, accuracy, ethical conduct, and a professional demeanor. Work Environment Indoors, frequently outdoors. Rarely in temperatures above 90°F or below 40°F. Conditions may rarely include chemicals/fumes, smoke/dust, confined area, stairs or ladders, unprotected heights, high noise level. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: Overall computer operations, including procedures and controls, hardware platforms, operating systems, database management systems and languages. Skill in: Using database management tools and processes. Completing detailed analysis to identify problems and follow through to resolution. Employing specific programming tools to construct complex procedural routines and processes. Ability to: Work independently on complex problems and initiatives. Communicate effectively in written and oral formats. Comprehend and interpret highly technical information and convey as appropriate for the audience.
