Position Overview

The NICU Registered Nurse is responsible for utilizing the nursing process to provide safe and high-quality healthcare to neonates and their families. This role emphasizes a family-centered care approach, focusing on stabilizing the family unit through safety and security. The nurse will possess a strong understanding of growth, development, and pathophysiology specific to neonates, enabling them to assess, plan, teach, intervene, and evaluate patient care effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform nursing assessments, develop and implement care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes.
• Utilize specialized knowledge and skills in the care of neonates, including procedures and equipment usage essential for this population.
• Provide education and support to patients and their families.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to enhance patient care.
• Function as a team leader, supervising other nursing staff as required.

Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum of two (2) years of acute care NICU nursing experience required.
• Current and unencumbered registered nurse licensure in the state of Oregon is necessary.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
• STABLE certification is required within 12 months of hire.

• Strong understanding of medical terminology and basic clinical skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and make professional judgments in emergency situations.
• Proficient in basic computer and keyboarding skills.
• Collaborative and effective team player with strong leadership capabilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Organizational and delegation skills are essential for managing patient care.

Unit and Environment Details

• Patient Age Groups: Neonates, infants, and pediatrics.
• Daily Census: Various patient volume.
• Number of Beds: 27.
• Interdisciplinary support from respiratory services, social services, radiology, pharmacy, and more.

Patient Care Focus

Care will include but is not limited to:

• Management of neonates with conditions such as neonatal sepsis, respiratory distress syndrome, and hyperbilirubinemia.
• Administration of medications, intravenous therapy, and blood products.
• Support for breastfeeding and parental education on infant care.
• Use of advanced therapies including high-frequency ventilation and therapeutic hypothermia.

Work Schedule

This is a night shift position with a 4x12 hour schedule from 19:00 to 07:30.
