Senior Network Operations Engineer

Senior Network Operations Engineer Responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, and supporting LAN and WAN infrastructures throughout the company. Provides high‑level technical support for data network systems, creates and maintains network documentation, maintains hardware and software standards, and leads projects to upgrade equipment and procedures. Primary Responsibilities Provides technical direction and engineering expertise for communications (LAN/WAN) systems infrastructure activities, including network planning, designing, and implementing requirements for buildings and systems. Ensures adequate planning is provided in building communications spaces, networks, and media pathways to meet industry standards. Interfaces with internal and external customers and vendors to determine communications infrastructure needs. Manages third‑party vendor relationships and holds them accountable for the delivery of outsourced functions, specifically call center and network operations. Develops and implements a robust disaster recovery strategy for critical systems and infrastructure. Assesses single points of failure in infrastructure and recommends actions as appropriate. Responds immediately to production issues. Utilises routing, switching, firewall, and load‑balancing expertise with thorough knowledge of IP, routing protocols, switching, and security. Works with leadership, property LAN service providers (LSPs), end‑user computing services, hosting services, and enterprise availability, server, storage, and virtualization to manage risk and disaster/crisis management. Provides senior technical engagement for all infrastructure phases from ideation through execution and ongoing management of end‑to‑end network servicing cloud and data center systems. Develops and executes initiatives to simplify, standardise, optimise, and automate network designs, tooling, and operations to reduce implementation cycle times, eliminate downtime, optimise performance, and ensure security and compliance governance. Establishes cross‑team relationships and partners to define data center network services, meet SLAs, and troubleshoot operational issues. Fosters continuous improvement and structured processes supporting a zero‑fault culture. Delivers data center network technical support to meet defined service levels benchmarked against industry standards. Monitors service usage and demand to ensure shared services expenditures align with planned spending. Tracks utilisation of services and reports supplier performance to meet business service expectations and SLAs. Defines requirements, strategy, solutions, and standards for data center, LAN/WAN network infrastructure to meet business needs and enterprise architecture & security standards. Partners on all technology lifecycle aspects including requirements, product and services management, planning, procurement, installation, support, retirement, with infrastructure VPs, Enterprise Architecture, and business planning teams. Supports development & compliance with enterprise architecture, engineering, and design plans. Demonstrates operational support capability with ITIL best practices (Incident, Problem, Change, Capacity, Release, Service Level Management). Assists with projects and duties as assigned. Qualifications & Requirements BS in Computer Science or relevant field of study. Networking and firewall certifications strongly preferred (CCNP, CCDP, PCNSE, CCP‑N). Minimum 8+ years of directly relevant experience. Strong understanding of enterprise architecture, cloud functions, identity & security, and their interoperability with network architecture. Experience with Cisco routers & switches, Fortinet firewalls, Ruckus wireless & switching. Knowledge of device‑level security, ACLs, port‑level security, VLANs, VRFs. Familiarity with infrastructure platforms (Cisco, Juniper, Linux, AWS, Fortinet, Ruckus, etc.). Extensive experience with instrumentation, enterprise monitoring, and reporting tools. Strong knowledge of network optimisation, performance, capacity analysis, trending. In‑depth knowledge of routing protocols such as EIGRP, BGP, OSPF. Knowledge of network applications (DHCP, DNS). Strong understanding of voice and data protocols: Ethernet, R/ARP, LACP, Spanning Tree, VSS, 802.1Q, TCP/IP, IPSEC VPNs, BGP, HSRP, NAT, TACACS+, RADIUS, MFA, SIP, SNMP/RMON, RDP. Proficient in packet captures (Wireshark, TCPDump) and flow tools (NetFlow, jFlow, SFlow). Strong knowledge of LAN/WAN communications hardware (routers, switches, gateways, firewalls, load balancers) and multiple topologies/media. Excellent oral and written communication skills; effective across diverse teams. Self‑disciplined, self‑starter, professional with ability to bring projects to closure independently.
