Engineering Intern

Overview The Madison, Wisconsin office of GEI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated summer intern to perform a broad range of engineering and environmental support duties. Responsibilities Work with engineers and scientists on a variety of engineering and environmental projects. Perform grading surveys and project layouts. Complete AutoCAD drawings and material takeoffs. Assist with preparation of design calculations, project reports, and bidding documents. Perform general site field services including soil sampling, transporting samples, delivering samples to laboratory, and filling out testing forms and field reports. Minimum Qualifications Minimum of three years of civil, geotechnical, or environmental BS schooling completed. Previous experience with construction oversight and documentation is preferred. Excellent writing and organizational skills and a valid driver’s license are required. Willingness to travel. Ability to perform field tasks and oversight. Ability to work independently and as part of a project team. Experience with Microsoft Office applications. Preference for candidates with experience using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and performing survey work. Physical Requirements & Work Environment Work is primarily sedentary with light to medium physical activity. Frequent activities include standing, walking, and climbing. Lifting (floor to waist) and lifting (waist to above) up to 25 lbs, carrying objects, pushing/pulling, and twisting are required. Use of keyboard and repetitive motion expected for more than 4 hours per day. Vision requirements include near and far vision. Hearing, depth perception, and sensory awareness for chemical, dust, extreme temperatures, and uneven surfaces are anticipated.
