Payroll Billing Lead

The Payroll Billing Lead is responsible for overseeing payroll-driven billing operations across multiple brands within a shared services model. This role ensures invoice accuracy, timely submission, and alignment between payroll output and client billing requirements. This is a working leadership role that actively supports complex pay/bill accounts while serving as the primary escalation point for billing-related matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee payroll-driven invoice generation across assigned brands and accounts.
  • Serve as primary operational owner of billing activities for designated billing-only brand.
  • Review and validate first invoices for new accounts to ensure pricing and setup accuracy.
  • Participate in client implementation and kickoff calls to support billing configuration.
  • Assist with complex billing calculations including blended rates, overtime rules, and VMS requirements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of invoices.
  • Reconcile payroll output to billing reports and resolve discrepancies.
  • Serve as escalation point for billing-related issues and questions.
  • Provide day-to-day workflow direction within the billing lane.
  • Support onboarding and training of team members as needed.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance billing efficiency and accuracy.
  • Maintain documentation of billing workflows and internal controls.
  • Collaborate with Payroll, Finance, HR, and Operations teams.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in payroll, pay/bill staffing, or billing operations.
  • Strong understanding of payroll-driven billing models.
  • Experience reconciling payroll data to client invoices.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Excel, including pivot tables, lookup functions, data reconciliation, and formula-driven validation of payroll and billing data.
  • Proficiency in payroll/billing systems.
  • Experience with VMS platforms preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage complex account structures and client-specific billing requirements.
  • High attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
