Physical Therapist III, IV - Hawaii District-East Special Education/Special Services

The authorized level of the position is Physical Therapist IV. Applications are being accepted down to Physical Therapist III in the event of recruiting difficulties. Salary Range: All new external applicants will be placed on the initial step of the salary range. Placement above the first step will be based on special characteristics, critical needs, exceptional qualifications, availability of funds, and other relevant factors. Hawaii State Department of Education employees will be placed on the salary range in accordance with Department regulations. Physical Therapist III, SR-20: $6,154.00 - $6,527.00 per month Physical Therapist IV, SR-22: $6,482.00 - $6,875.00 per month Responsibilities Attend meetings for collaborative planning of educational programs or provision of services. Prepare information for teachers and other school personnel on preventive activities to help struggling learners, and participate in whole-school and/or student-specific screenings. Prepare reports, treatment plans and other materials. May supervise a small group of lower-level physical therapists and paraprofessionals by assigning schedules, reviewing work, and providing guidance and assistance. May provide technical assistance to school and/or district staff (resource teachers, district educational specialists, principals, other specialized personnel, etc.). Provide advisory and consultative services and program information to parents, family members and volunteer personnel. Modify and design therapeutic equipment; estimate equipment and therapy supply needs and costs, requisition and maintain inventory of adequate supplies, equipment and materials for program operation. Provide fieldwork training experience for physical therapy students. Independently prepare and plan a school-based physical therapy program that capitalizes on ability and minimizes impact of disability on the educational environment. Attend student-focused team meetings to identify curricular expectations, current performance and other relevant information, and determine the areas in which information is needed for a particular student’s assessment. Plan, select and use a variety of physical therapy methods and measures to identify the student’s performance skills, educational environment, activity demands and student factors in relation to the identified education-related areas. Analyze and interpret results with the IEP team. Assist with the determination of goals and objectives, implement treatment plans and monitor progress. Education Requirement Graduation from an accredited physical therapy program, which at the time of graduation was accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), its predecessor organization, or its successor organization; or in the case of a foreign-trained person, a credentials evaluation report from an agency recognized by the appropriate licensing agency of the State of Hawaii indicating successful completion of an education program equivalent to an accredited physical therapy program. Experience Requirements Physical Therapist III: 0 years Physical Therapist IV: 1 year Professional experience as a Physical Therapist that equips the applicant with a full professional understanding of the theories of prevention and treatment of physical disability or disease by physical therapy and their proper application by use of physical measures, activities and devices for preventive and therapeutic purposes appropriate to the patient’s physical and psychological condition. For some positions at the Physical Therapist IV and V levels, the applicant may be required to show evidence of ability to supervise others. Quality of Experience Possession of the required number of years of experience is not sufficient proof of qualification for a position. The applicant’s overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position. Certification & License Requirements Applicants must have passed the National Physical Therapy Examination for Physical Therapists at the time of application. Applicants must possess a valid license to practice as a Physical Therapist in the State of Hawaii at the time of appointment. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license in the State of Hawaii. Lift and Carry Requirement Applicants must possess the ability to lift/carry objects weighing up to 45 pounds. Requirements Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. The required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. Calculation of experience is based on full-time, 40-hour workweeks. Part-time experience is pro-rated. For example, twelve months of experience at 20 hours/week equals six months of experience; twelve months of experience at 60 hours/week equals one year of experience. Temporary Assignment A copy of the applicant’s TA History Report or equivalent system-generated report. A signed letter from the applicant’s supervisor including the applicant’s name, TA job title, start and end dates, specific TA duties performed, and either the TA hours worked per week or total TA hours worked. Copies of the applicant’s signed SF-10 Forms. Information about Temporary Positions Temporary positions may be extended year to year, depending on funding and departmental needs. Making yourself available for temporary positions increases employment possibilities and may lead to permanent opportunities. A person hired for a temporary position may also become a temporary employee upon satisfactory completion of the initial probation period of at least six months.
